  TWO WEEKS. RICKY'S BEEN LIVING in korea for over two weeks now, and he's actually been having a lot of fun.

school's not too bad - his tutors have always described him as 'a sponge'; he absorbs the information quickly.

"so basically, the electron in photosystem II gets excited by light energy, and travels down the electron transport chain to photosystem I," he explains to gyuvin.

"it's so much easier when you say it like that, god why does the book over complicate it?"

"because you need to know all those terms, it's what gets you the marks."

"how are you so good at this?" gyuvin whines.

"i just am," he replies simply, with a smirk.

"shut up, i'm gonna stop feeding your ego now."

"noo, i'm going to starve!" ricky says with a pout, leaning into gyuvin as he grabs a hold of his arm.

"not my problem!" he replies with a laugh, standing up. "okay, we have english next."

"did you hear? jungwon said that we'll probably get some sort of speaking test soon. their class was told to prepare for one," gyuvin continues as he packs up his books.

"oh really? well, it'll be easy."

"woah, that confident in your speaking skills?"

"well, i did spend a few years in california." ricky turned to look at gyuvin curiously after packing up his own items when he heard silence from the boy.

"you what?"

"are you deaf? he said he lived in cali," junhyeon says, rolling his eyes.

"you say that like you know."

"because i do?"

"you do?" gyuvin was in shock.

"well yeah, a lot of people know."

"know what?" they turn to look at wonyoung.

"that ricky lived in california for a bit."

"oh, yeah!" she says.

"woah, wait. how does everyone know? i only told like my homeroom class when i introduced myself."

"seriously? i don't remember this."

"i think you were in the toilet. and anyways, word spreads fast in this school. not only is this crazy attractive new student rich, but he's also lived the american dream!" wonyoung says.

"i did not live the american dream," ricky scoffs. "this school is exaggerating things."

"okay, okay, i don't care about what dream he had, but why did i not know this crucial piece of information about ricky?"

"i don't know, why does it matter?" junhyeon asks as the four make their way out the class.

"because i'm his guide! i should know everything about him."

"not really, it's not like you're his best friend or anything," wonyoung remarks.

"you're right! from now on, me and ricky are best friends. i should know everything about you, what's your favourite colour? how long does it take to do your hair in the mornings? what's your go-to drink at a cafe?"

ricky found it endearing how determined gyuvin seemed to be in being his friend. they already are, but he supposes it's nice to also have a close friend in korea, because all of his are in china right now.
