As Marcus scanned the park, he spotted Ciara sitting with James on a bench near the park trail. James seemed to be in the middle of saying something important to Ciara when Marcus walked up, interrupting their conversation. Marcus offered to escort Ciara home so they could talk. James knowing the cue hesitantly got up and regrettably made his exit, leaving Marcus with Ciara alone.Ciara agreed, and they made their way out of the park.
He could tell that something was weighing heavy on her, and he knew that he needed to get to the bottom of it.As they walked, Marcus couldn't help but notice how beautiful Ciara look as the moonlight glimmered on her silhouette. Her freshly caramel-highlighted silk press and curled hair were blowing gently in the breeze, and her eyes sparkled brightly like diamonds. He knew that he had feelings for her, but he didn't know if he should express them. His respect and admiration for her tempered his attraction.
Once they arrived at Ciara's apartment, Marcus took a seat on the couch and motioned for Ciara to sit next to him. He gently asked her about the kiss with Angela and why it had bothered her so much. Ciara couldn't bring herself to tell him the truth, so she made up a lie about feeling threatened by Angela taking replacing her as his new best friend.
Marcus saw right through her half-truth confession and knew that there was more to the story. But still he reassured her that she was his best girl, and no one could ever take her place. He also promised moving forward he would not flaunt his interactions with Angela in front of Ciara because he didn't want to make her uncomfortable or worried.
Those words crushed Ciara's spirit, and tears started to roll down her cheeks. Marcus pulled her into a tight embrace, holding her close as she cried. He whispered soothing words into her ear, telling her that their friendship meant everything to him and that he would never want to hurt her.
Marcus prided himself on being Ciara's knight in shining armor, the perfect gentleman. With other women, he was known to be a bit of a player with pretty-boy mannerisms. Yet something about Ciara's innocence brought conviction to Marcus's soul. He knew that he needed Ciara permanently in his life to keep himself from going completely over the edge. With her, he was the "good, bad boy," if such a thing could exist.
They spent the night cuddled up on the couch, watching movies and talking about everything and nothing. Ciara felt safe in Marcus's arms, and for a moment, she forgot about all of her problems.
The next morning, Marcus quietly got up, careful not to wake Ciara. He walked over to the door, locking it with his spare key. As he walked out, he pulled out his phone and called Angela to see if the offer was still available.
Ciara was not asleep as he thought, and she heard everything. She felta spasms of jealousy and hurt, wondering if Marcus really cared about her at all. But deep down, she knew that he did, and she just had to trust that everything would work out in the end.

Ciara lay on the couch for a few more moments, lost in her thoughts. She felt torn between her fear of being hurt again and her desire to give Marcus a chance. She knew that he was a kind and caring person, but she also knew that she couldn't control his actions or his decisions.
After a few minutes, Ciara got up from the couch and walked over to the window. She looked out at the cityscape, watching as the sun rose over the horizon. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts.
