[ through the dark › one direction ]

hyunjin was head over heels for lee minho.

now all the girls in their school, if ever to hear that, would laugh cruelly and tell her to get in line.

but deep in hyunjin's heart, she had a feeling if he had to choose one of them out of a crowd — maybe, just maybe, he'd pick her.

their history went far back, all the way to a dusty classroom in grade 2.

minho had wanted to read the new book in their small library but hyunjin had already beat him to it. the boy, lacking social skills and allergic to the word please, had ripped the book from her hands and started a fight between the two.

it ended with minho landing a hit to the girl's face and sending her hard to the ground, leaving her to cry uncontrollably.

somehow, between an awkward sorry and minho feeling so bad that he made her a get-better card, they became best friends.

growing up together after that proved to be a challenge though.

for years, hyunjin would get teased about having a crush on the other or asked if minho was her 'boyfriend'. at the time, those questions had been so embarrassing she refused to entertain the idea of being with him.

it was wrong, the thought of her and minho, together. and then one day it wasn't.

she was 16, they'd known each other for nearly 8 years, and minho had grown in all the right ways.  between prioritizing hygiene and limbs strengthening and stretching out, he was quite something to look at.

not only physically did he change though, but his maturity grew. he'd become one of the most respectful and gentle people she'd ever met.

and that was why she'd fallen 6 million feet for him, so instantly and hard that after a year of tirelessly trying to rid her feelings, she finally gave up.

it was puppy love at the time. a blush here, the butterflies everywhere as she wore her heart on her sleeve for him.

then minho changed. he started acting differently, nervous around her, until, like a dam, he broke with all his feelings and confessions on the floor.

he told her he was bi.

at first she'd been confused, trying to figure out what he was talking about, before she realized.

she'd laughed at the time, hugging him tight around the waist.

"boys, girls, who cares? it just matters that they make you happy."

she'd, of course, been hinting about herself at the time, but hadn't been able to stop her curiosity.

"is there anyone who made you realize?"

hyunjin thought something in the way he looked at her had changed then, but when he started talking about a popular guy in their school, disappointment flooded through her.

she then realized how terrible her crush truly was.

she felt sickened by the fact minho liked someone else. she was jealous.
