" Try calling out to him "said Yushiro
Niko hasn't attacked them yet, that's a good sign. He's just standing there so far, shaking, drooling, growling
" Niko...Niko? "Miko calls, raising her voice a little
Niko lets out a breathy exhale before gritting his teeth again. Miko tries to move forward but Yushiro stops her. Niko's experience is much different from Nezuko, according to Tanjiro's story. Niko was breathing heavily as if he was suffocating and Miko tries to run to her little brother while Yushiro holds her still
" Stop! Let me go! "Miko pleads
" Don't be stupid! We don't know if he'll attack! "
" Well if he wanted to he wouldn't be staring would he! YushiroSan! "
Niko takes a step forward and they both stop, Miko's hand pushing on Yushiro's face while he held her off the ground as she tries to use her foot to push off his leg. He was breathing heavily as Yushiro throws Miko behind him and puts his hands out defensively
" Miko...just call him.. "Yushiro said quickly
" ...N..Niko..Niko! "
Silence carries and Niko falls onto the floor. Miko runs over in a panic and Yushiro didn't bother stopping her this time. Miko holds her little brother, tears threatening to fall down her cheek as she gently shakes him
" Nee..San "Niko quietly calls out
"Rest, everything will be okay, just rest "Miko smiles, trying to reassure her brother and mostly herself
" I'm hungry... "
" Don't even think about it "Yushiro scolds
Miko looks at Yushiro who is walking over with a box
" He won't be able to stop himself "
A bamboo muzzle with red ribbons was in the box. Miko was about to lift it but Yushiro quickly slapped her hand away as he takes it out himself. When he flips the bamboo around Miko see's a letter N and e on it, but she didn't have time to see what it says before Yushiro ties it to Niko's mouth
" Hey! How will he be able to eat?!- "
" He can't eat human food now! He's a demon! "
" But...But you can! "
" Because Lady Tamayo turned me into a demon, this is different! "
Miko becomes quiet seeing the frustrated look on Yushiro's face. She quiets down as she watches tensed. She felt herself shaking as Yushiro places Niko on the bed. Now curious, she reaches out to the muzzle, slightly tilting it and trying to look at the engravings
" Ah! "Miko startles as Yushiro slaps her hand
" Don't touch it or it'll loosen up! "
" Uh...okay.. "
Silence lingers again as Yushiro cleans Niko's wounds and stitches them, Miko watching intensely, worried something might happen
" So, what are you going to do now? "Yushiro asks
" ...I guess I'll have to report to the police... "
" Wait a bit first- "
" Um...the door is broken down and you can clearly see what..happened "
" . . . Then just hopes your brother regenerates fast enough, go call them then, and I'll tend to him and give him a boost serum "
" Okay! "
Miko runs out and pauses, she doesn't want to go back home...not to that..mess. Shakily, she calls the cops
" 911 what is your emergency? "

.
.
.
Miko rocks herself back and forth in Yushiro's living area. Niko can't talk to the cops because of his muzzle to which Yushiro lied saying it's his emotional support object. When the cops took the muzzle off Niko tried speaking but struggle, to which Yushiro lied again saying he is in shock by what happened. Suspicious, the cop lets them off seeing Niko clinging onto Miko, the witness at the crime scene
Since they were siblings and Miko clearly had an alibi, the cops believed they weren't suspects and leave them to be. Silence followed shortly after and Miko turns to Yushiro for some assistance
" Ah! "Miko startles as a rolled-up paper hit her face
Niko flinches back and stares daggers at Yushiro, who is unfazed by it and gladly returns it
" Chachamaru will help you "Yushiro states, dropping the poor calico who hissed and swipes the air
" ...Are you okay? "Miko questions
" I'm fine "
He turns his head away as he said that, and after he did, left the room with the syringe of Niko's blood which he collected earlier. He's not fine, Miko can smell what she would describe as distressed. Fear, worry, sadness, and anger. Yushiro was conflicted to feel what, so his attitude led his emotion
" YushiroKun... "
She held tightly to the scroll before looking over to the meowing cat, who was flicking a bit because of the demon art. Miko inhales before taking her brother by the hand and following Chachamaru outside. Fate swirled her mind as it flashes images of ways her only surviving brother could die. Miko's grip tightens and her brows furrow, she will not let that happen. Niko returns a comforting squeeze and Miko looks back at him
" Don't worry, big sis is here to protect you "She smiled
Miko looks back at the calico, her chest being swarmed by emotions she couldn't decipher, never had she felt this lost, this confused, this empty. She lifted the scroll and looked at it before deciding not to read it
" I'll look at it later...when we arrive..wherever we're supposed to "Miko mumbles
" Hey Chachamaru~? Do you know where we're going? "Miko questions
Chachamaru nods and meows, again, it looked like he was going in and out of the world. Miko sighs and smiles with a defeated look
" I see... "
She wasn't even sure if he fully understood her, he only knows Japanese but English? She's not so sure if he was fluent. It doesn't matter right now though, what matters is that she continues down the new path that is uncovered for her, one where many obstacles would try to obstruct her
" Your sister will definitely help you survive this, I promise "

Heya dear readers and Wolfies. AuthorWolfy here, just want to say my thanks for reading this book and hope you are enjoying it. There is also another thing I want to say one more thing. This book will follow the original plot, but the protagonist is Miko and her little brother who is now demonized. Although this prologue(sort of) is very similar to the beginning of Demon Slayer, I hope to make it different by using original characters(That I just spawn from thin air or derived them from other ocs) and making interesting interactions
Anyways that's it, comments are appreciated and it'll help a lot if you point out a few mistakes(like grammar or if you think the character is not very in character)
