3. "Realization Leads To Painful Memories"

It was too late when Mordecai went to the orphanage where he grew up, with his sister, bullying her. It was too late when he realized his mistake. He regreted bullying his own sister, he hated himself for that and wished that he could go back to the time and say sorry to his sister.

The time when he realized his mistake, he rushed to the orphanage. But alas, Rora was no longer there. His heart shattered into pieces but time awaits for no one, does it?

He wanted to apologize to his sister who took care of him, the only one who was by his side when his parents left the world, the only one who wiped his tears whenever he cried.

His only sister, who he was staring at. His only sister who was laying at a hospital bed. His only sister he never cared for. His only sister he never payed attention to and always hurt her.

"Sir, " The nurse called out breaking the chain of Mordecai's thoughts making him look up at her. "I'm sorry to say this but... Rora doesn't have a lot of time left. " The nurse whispered, loud enough for him to hear.

Yes... he figured.

He could never forgive himself for whatever he did to his sister. Of course, how could he? He has been a terrible person towards his sister all that time. But he was a kid, he did not have brain. But again, a fault is a fault. He can never forgive himself.

"How- how much? " It's the first time in his life that he stuttered. The thought of losing someone dear to you, but also the one you never cared for, but also the one who would give their life for you, that thought hurts. It hurts.

"About 4 to 5 days only. She has been suffering from mental and physical issues. We studied her brain and it turned out that she has been suffering from mental problems. And the way she was hit by a car, she has a little damage on her head too. " The nurse explained. Mordecai's blood boiled when he heard about mental problems. He was angry at Rora, he was angry at himself.

At Rora, because she is still the same. She doesn't care about herself and keeps forgiving everyone, no matter how bad they are or how badly they've hurt her.

At himself, because he never realized how much he has hurt Rora. Untill now... but now is not of any use, is it? The last days of her life are going on. He wants to kill himself but again... not without apologizing to Rora.

Wait... how the heck is he gonna even face her? He's dying to see his sister wake up and see him but he also does not want her to see him. Why? Simply because he does not have the courage. After all he has done, he's embarrassed to even face her.

"Can't she be saved? " Mordecai asked with hopes in his eyes. He wants her to live and scold him, he wants her to live and smile... genuinely, not a fake one. He wants to live with his sister.

"We've tried everything, we still are trying to do what we can. And even if she lives, she'll be in pain. Because of demage to her brain cells, she'll randomly feel severe pain in specific parts of her body. The pain can lead her to vomit blood and she'll be living in pain for the rest of her life... so maybe it's better for her to leave this world without any pain. " Without any pain, huh? Are you kidding me? She has lived her whole life in pain!

Mordecai nodded as he left the room, not before glancing at Rora. He has been visiting her everyday and has ordered the nurses to not to tell her about it. Though nurses have told him that she wants to see him, but he still needs the courage. He doesn't have it.

It was his fault when Rora was in pain in the past. It is his fault that Rora is in pain in the present. He should not have drived like a maniac. He should've watched out. Only if he was a little careful back then, maybe Rora would not have been at the hospital bed today.

As soon as he came out of the room, he was held roughly by someone and was dragged to a place without anyone nearby. He knew this was going to happen, and he was ready for it.

"Why are you here? " The person who dragged him demanded. His voice was heavy due to anger.

"I could ask you the same thing. You've used her, haven't you? Why do you care about her? " Mordecai spat looking directly in the person's eyes which were red due to anger. "Answer me, Ryder. "

Mordecai has been keeping an eye on Ryder and his group of friends since he came in this city. At first, when he saw and Rora had made a friend, a best friend, his heart felt at ease; she's not alone. The day, when Rora appeared in front of his car out of nowhere was the day he got to know how Ryder has betrayed her, used her and how he became her friend just to win money, his blood boiled. But he had to control himself for the right time to take off his anger. Now is not the right time.

"I asked first. " Mordecai chuckled as he freed himself from Ryder's grip. He adjusted the collar of his suit and shifted his gaze towards the blonde.

"Vinson, isn't it? " Yes, he remembers him. Vinson, who was Mordecai's partner in bullying Rora at the orphanage.

Vinson wasn't surprised that he remembers him. He is surprised at how Mordecai has changed. Before, he used to fight with Rora. Now, he is fighting for Rora. Quiet a character development, ain't it?

"You've been involved in bullying her from the start, right? I'm surprised you still haven't changed. " Mordecai completed. While Ryder was confused what they were talking about. He didn't waste a second caring about it and held Mordecai by his collar again making Mordecai roll his eyes.

"Why are you here? " Ryder repeated.

"To see my sister, asshole. " Mordecai cursed punching Ryder on his stomach making his groan in pain. Vinson rushed to Ryder who was on floor, holding his stomach and glared at Mordecai.

"You also bullied her, didn't you? " At this, Vinson recieved a strange look from Mordecai.

"Seriously? I was brainwashed by you guys! " Yes, that was true. And as a kid, he never understood what actually he was doing to his sister. "But I was just a kid back then. Not any more. " He spat greeting his teeth.

"Mordecai, fot your information, Ryder has realized his mistake too, not to mension, me as well. " Vinson was calm, unlike the two others. Vinson has always been a cheerful and a dumb guy, and that's why seeing his calm side scares people.

"Do you think she'd forgive us? We both have hurt her more than anyone, there's no way she's going to forgive us. " Mordecai snarled. He's aware of the fact that she's in this condition just because of him.

Ryder chuckled. "You don't know how much she has waited for you all these years. She talked about you everyday, you know. " He asserted looking directly in Mordecai's eyes making him uncomfortable. "And... even if we don't ask for forgiveness, she's going to forgive us. Maybe she has already forgave us. But I'm not gonna take advantage of that... " That brought tears in Mordecai's eyes.

Mordecai remembers when they were still in orohanage, Mordecai accidentally threw his meal. Rora didn't eat herself and gave her meal to him. She used to stay hungry and feed Mordecai instead. Knowing the fact that Mordecai used to bully her, she never hated him. She used to smile at him whenever he looked at her and Mordecai remembers how that used to piss him off. He bullied her severely, yet, she forgave him. He remembers how he and his fellow bullies used to throw Rora's meal on her, how they used to ruin the clothes that she had just washed, how they used to ruin her school work that she did all night. But she never complained against them. Even their care taker asked if she's facing some problem and she always denied.

That kind of person she was; selfless.
