Byleth was laying down on the passenger seats of her dad's rundown Toyota Sienna, playing the song Changes by David Bowie into her headphones. Laying on the car floor was her overfilled backpack stuffed to the brim with snacks and bottles of different flavoured beverages. She stroked her oak-brown hair as she felt something strange. She grabbed a few strands to notice the dark cyan patch of hair right before her eyes.
"I have always been a weirdo, wherever I go. The one who doesn't move a facial muscle while watching a horror movie, the one who won't cry when the dog dies in a family movie, and the one who doesn't feel all lovely dovey when the two accountants fall in love at the end of a romantic comedy. I have also been told by doctors that I am weird in other ways too. Maybe there is a reason for my weirdness, but who knows? Maybe I will one day find the answer to it and why my dad keeps moving from city to city, village to village. But for now. It is all a mystery," She monologued inside her head
She pushed down the cyan strands as she rose to see the landscape change from the plain old countryside to a deep and thick leaf forest. With a massive sign above the road saying " Welcome to Garreg Mach ." Byleth had heard of this place before, some fancy place the rich send their annoying kids to the academy there because "kids who go there end up being CEOs." She had also heard kids who go there sometimes end up being strippers because they rebelled against their parents' values too. What did she have to do with this then? Her dad was a man who worked on a stupid online business, not an owner of a perfume company or an oil tycoon.
"Do you want some burgers? I know a decent spot around here." Her dad said.
"Uh yes," Byleth responded.
Her dad drove into a small parking lot, just for Byleth to see a stone white building with a generic burger name she would probably forget. Byleth grabbed her phone and opened the car door. On the other side of the burger restaurant were a ton of fancy stone and wooden buildings that cost more than a kidney and a lung to live there. With fancy little plants growing on the walls of said buildings. However, she couldn't ramble about the buildings forever. She needed her food.
She first opened the doors the wrong way. But when she opened it the right way she was hit by the weird combination of fancy cologne and french fries. "Strange to assume this place didn't sell foie gras burgers," She thought. She walked up to the cashier register where she saw a sweaty middle-aged named "Paul" turn around and look at her. She looked up to see the menu that had probably not changed since the 1970s.
"What do you want young la-"
"Give me a number 3 but put chili powder on the fries, also make the milkshake half vanilla half chocolate," She ordered, before she snatched her dad's credit card from him and paid for her meal. She then looked back at that old man.
"Do you want anything?"
"Oh, just some onion rings,"
"What dip?"
"Bbq,"
Her dad then left the shop to smoke outside. Meanwhile, Byleth sat down at an empty table and scrolled her TikTok. She could already see how stuff had changed by seeing a bunch of preps walking around this town, and an overly flamboyant man with a bowl cut who was modelling, somehow. "Damn, I hope they have acting classes so I could pick up how to act like a kid who gets a Louis Vuitton handbag for barely passing a class."
She scrolled for a few more minutes until she heard her order being shouted out. She grabbed the food and left her burger on the table while heading outside to give her dad the onion rings. She tried to lightly press her dad's arm yet her dad was too busy talking on his phone with this strange man. So she shoved an onion ring into his mouth before returning inside.
Byleth sat down and began to watch more TikTok while eating her burger. Which was pretty tasty, she then grabbed a fry when she felt another person's hand.
