On the brink of madness
Caged birds of the black jungle sing freedom songs
As Poseidon blows desperately from the Atlantic's west
Watching the ocean swallow their hope—they sing on
Caged birds are freedom bond—they live to fly!
Knowing the Sun will rise again, they sing through the night
Against hostile winds cursing their cause—
Never giving in. In harmony they sing on
They know of time and observe the turning tide
Singing to inspire the Sun's rising. A new day awaits
Caged birds are freedom bond—they live to fly!
Son of the Nile sobs singing bird songs
We bow to the western winds and sing no more
Perfidy to the ancestral struggle
Caged birds know more than my kind may ever know!
