You let Rafe drop you home. It was dark by then so less likely to be seen but you know you can't keep living like this. Not to mention Rafe doesn't deserve that. You say tell Rafe you'll see him soon before he drives off.
You go inside, make your bed finally and sit down, the room is slowly starting to come together. It already feels more like home than your old room ever did. Just because it was big and fancy doesn't mean you preferred it. The only thing that ever happened in your old room was arguments with mom. This room feels more like my own anyway, you know Barry will respect your privacy and it isn't like mom is about to come in and argue with you any time soon.
You check your phone, it's 9 o'clock and Sarah has messaged you a total of 6 times asking how she missed you when you came by the house and if you've left for the party yet.
Do I have to go? I'm shattered, today took it out of me. You roll over onto your side and feel your eyes start to close. I'll just lie here for a sec...
You wake up to your phone ringing. It's Sarah, shit. It's also 10:56.
"Hello?"
"Where are you?! I've been here for like an hour" Sarah's shouting down the phone like she can't hear you, you can hear music and people in the background.
"Sorry! I fell asleep!" You say as you dart up and run out the door. You don't think Barry was home but if he was you didn't see him. "I'll be there in 5 minutes it's not far, I'll see you soon"
"Okay girl hurry!" You can tell she's already drunk.
You're jogging down the road trying to remember where the bone yard is. It's called the bone yard because of all the random drift wood that washes up on shore. It's basically this massive beach that holds the start of summer party or whatever every year. It has to be one of the biggest beaches on obx, definitely the biggest you've ever been to. It's one of the very few places on this island that kooks and pogues both go to, like the shake shack.
If you follow one end of the bone yard you end up at the bottom of the country club golf course. And if you follow the other end you walk straight into the centre of the cut. The bone yard is more middle ground, kooks and pogues.
You stop jogging, you're out of breath even though you've only been jogging for about 3 minutes. It probably has something to do with the fact you were fast asleep 4 minutes ago.
You hear the party before you see it. The car park is over flowed, people are blocking each other in left right and centre. I guess no one actually plans on driving home tonight. You spot Popes truck parked up, his dad said yes to the party then. The beach is swarmed, you've never seen it so busy. An equal mix of polos and wife beaters.
You walk over to Popes truck, that's the better option than walking into the sea of drunk high school students, half of which hate you now and the other half would hate you if they knew you. Popes truck is empty "fuck sake"
"Tiv?" You hear that dumb nickname and spin around. You're met with blue eyes and a smirk
"Oh, hey JJ"
"I'm surprised you came" JJ laughs at the floor as he walks over to you. He lifts out a crate of beer from the back of Popes truck that was hidden under a jacket. "Just getting more supplies" he's clearly already kinda drunk but something tells me JJ can hold his own with alcohol. "Have you just got here? It's late"
"Oh yeah uh..." he doesn't stop walking so you just walk next to him. "I forgot" that sounds better than 'I fell asleep because I was catching up with the kook king who also happens to be my best friend' right? JJ doesn't say anything, I wouldn't believe me either plus you're still half asleep.
"Come on we're over here" you follow JJ to the corner of the beach where there's a fire and people sat around. You don't recognise everyone but you spot Pope, Kie and Jb. "Look who I found" JJ announces as he hands out a beer to everyone. Pope is the only one who turns down his offer. JJ looks at you and offers you Popes unwanted beer. You smile and take it
"We thought you weren't coming" Jb says. You smile and sit next to him. I like Pope because he's nice and really approachable. Thats why the teachers picked him to show the new kid around. But I like Jb because he has kind eyes and a smile that makes you feel like you've known him your whole life. He's only said a few words to you yet you feel you could tell him anything.
"Yeah sorry, here I am"
"I don't usually come to these beginning of summer parties either, too many kooks end up coming" Jb says as he's moving in his seat to turn to you
"So why did you go to this one?" He looks at you like he's about to tell you a secret
"When JJ wants to party sometimes it's easier to just go than put up a fight" You smile back, JJ sits next to you so you're in between them. You take a sip of the beer, not bad.
