On the bleachers of a high school are a pair of friends talking one says
"Hey man are you stoked for the game this week." The other man replies stating.
"Yeah, but I'm not going to be there cause of this trip my parents are taking me on." The friend looks puzzled but then remembers.
"Oh, right you are leaving for your birthday, right? How old are you turning?"
"18" He answers.
"Dang, you getting old about to be a senior" Before he can reply someone from the court calls the birthday boy's name.
"Aye Yo Kami come down here and play ball man we need an extra."
"Oh alright I'll be down in a minute give me a second. Aye man it was nice talking to you Akira I'll see you around."
"Aye man why not me" says the one sitting next to Kami. The guy replies saying.
"Your too much of a try hard man" The guy scoffs and says.
"Whatever man"
"Alright man catch you later" Time passes and school is over. He goes around just talking to his friends saying.
"See you later."
Walking home like every day and stopping to get some snacks on his way home. Opens the door and greets his parents and his older sister.
"Hey Mom, hey Dad, what up sis"
"Hello son how was school?" the mother asks while baking some dessert.
"Nothing much happened I played some ball and attended all my classes. It was boring not going to lie" He replies while diving into the fridge.
"Don't eat to much, dinner will be here soon" says the father from the other room.
"I won't" Kami says closing the fridge with an handful of food.
"Are you excited for the trip?" says the sister leaning against the wall separating the kitchen and living room.
"Very, it's for my birthday after all" he says filling his mouth with food and walking up to his sister. They do a handshake, and he walks to the right down the hall knocking on the first door to his left.
"Heeeyyyy lil' bro why you aint greet me huh?" The door opens and the brother runs out of the room to hug him.
"That's better here is some candy I got at the store. Don't tell Mom" he says shushing his brother. The brother's eyes light up and back up slowly closing the door confirming that he won't. Kami walks down to his room all the way at the end to the left. He opens it to a room a blue hue and heavily decorated. He walks in and gets to listening to music from his speaker while doing his homework. The hours pass and he is called into the kitchen. He stops what he is doing and is greeted to the aroma of pizza, and he paces a little faster. Entering the kitchen, he sees 3 pizza boxes and some extra side boxes with breadsticks and mother's dessert square gram cracker brownie squares. Almost watering at the mouth. He comes into the kitchen where the father says the grace and they are allowed to dig in. After dinner is finished, he is bloated and finds his way to his bed. There he sleeps the night away only to wake up for another day at school. The day of his leave. He gets ready for school and soon leaves saying his goodbyes. Arriving at school to see Akira chilling at a table at school before it starts. He is wearing his jersey for the basketball team. He walks up and says.
"You ready for your game today?"
"Hell, no they got me playing 3 games in a row for the finals."
"Damn you sure you going to be alright" Kami replies.
"Yeah, you know me I'm going to be just fine I'm not the best on the team for nothing."
"That is true you always somehow pull through." The bell rings and interrupts their conversation, they say their goodbyes and head to class. First hour English passes and Kami snores through it. Second hour World History is a subject that he is fine with and survives the class. Onto his third hour Algebra struggling for the life of him not able to understand a thing he turns to his left and asks his friend.
"Hey pts" trying to get her attention. She turns to face him implying he has her attention. He continues.
"Can you help me understand this." She nods her head no and says.
"Why should I, you were bullying me because I like Ganko, and he is still explaining it. Just pay attention." Kami looks at her concerned and faces her and gives her the puppy eyes whispering.
"PLEASE AOI" Aoi looks at him rolls her eyes and leans over to help him. To focused on the problems the teacher calls Kami's name.
"Kami! You're going to the office; you're leaving take your bag."
"Oh, ok then talk to you later Aoi" Kami replies.
"Alright then, see you later."
Kami walks out of class and towards the office to see his parents with his sister. They check him out and head back home. They load up their car and head toward the airport. They board the plane and arrive at the island of Honoku hours later in the depths of the night. They find their hotel and are fast asleep once a bed is found. They wake up that morning and go explore the island. They go to on a boat ride for the day then go back home. They wake up and go to a water park and go climbing. Then it falls to dusk, and a sirens alarm beams their ears as they are on the volcano climbing.
"WHA-WHATS GOING OONN" Kami yells while shaking from the volcano.
"I THINK THERE IS AN EARTHQUAKE" says the dad stumbling around.
"WE NEED TO GE-" the sister gets interrupted while talking as a spew of hot lava soars through the air. Still from shock they don't move and the sister gets hit with the magma on her face. The magma sticks on her face like honey and slowly drips down. She frantically squirms around and tumbles down the volcano screaming.
Realizing that everyone needs to move the father demands everyone.
"TAKE YOUR ASS DOWN THIS VOLCANO NOW! GO GO GO!" Everyone snaps out of it and the father takes the youngest with him as they go down. The lava slowly creeps up on them as another eruption happens. Spewing even more lava from another side of the island. As they are climbing frantically the father slips and rolls down the volcano with the brother. They are both screaming with the little brother crying. The mother and Kami climbed down as fast as possible. The closer they get to the base of the volcano the more they see the blood splattered from their family members. Another violent eruption causes the mother to slip into the lava that climbed its way down faster than them. The mother tries to claw her way out the lava but slowly seeps in like quicksand. Kami looks down at his mother in agonizing pain and looks back to face the volcano wall while biting his lip. Eventually he reaches the base of the volcano but what awaits him is a grotesque sight. The skull of his sister with strands of her hair while her body uncontrollably twitches. The face of his father with his eye sockets popped out and his brains leaking holding his brother who has been dismembered with the skin torn on his face in some parts and the hand of the mother peaking from the lava. What awaits him in front is a burning forest being the only way out. So, he takes a big gulp and runs as fast as he can through the forest. However, he is sweating profusely and can't see a tree collapsing in front of him. He is caught under the tree and his clothes catch on fire while his body burns with it. His eyes full of sweat and his body engulfed in flame. He tries to crawl but cant his arm gives up as he feels like he is melting and everything goes black.
When he wakes up he is in a white room with glass panes in the sides of his room. There he sees Aoi and Akira. He is confused and puzzled to see his friends and black markings on his body when the man on the other side of the glass in front of him says.
"Kami Sonzai, test subject number #84395, successful happy birthday."
