Then, I woke up. Grace looked at me with confusion because I woke up right before she was going to wake me. I smiled and said good morning to my little sunshine. She giggled. I got up and got dressed for work. I ate breakfast with my mom and Grace. Then, I said, "Mom, I am going to do something that I believe I want to do now, since I am a woman and can make my own decisions." My mom nodded her head, but gave me a confused look. Then, I put my Amelia Earhart jacket on and took Grace to school. I went to work as usual, but this time I did something different. After my shift was done and I got my pay, I marched to the manager's office. I opened the door and said, "I am so sick of working here and being paid less because I am a woman. It makes me sick. Why would you do something like that? It's bad enough that we treat negroes unfairly and now we're treating genders differently! I quit!" The manager was looking at me wide eyes, his jaw dropped. Then, I went to the bottom left drawer of his desk and saw that my bracelet was still there. I took it and ran out of the store. I ran to the next trolley I saw, jumped on and sat down. I looked down at my bracelet and put it on my wrist. I started to cry because what I had just done was crazy, but I was happy that I had my bracelet back. Then, a colored man who was sitting behind me asked, "Is everything ok ma'am?" I turned around and nodded with a smile before explaining how much the bracelet meant to me and what my father did. The colored man gave me a strange look , probably wondering why this crazy white woman was telling him this. "Hi, my name is Tom Curtis. I am alive because of your father. Your father is a hero to me. Without him I would have never seen my 5 lovely kids and wife again.". I looked at him, thinking that I should be angry with him but I wasn't. I was happy. I started to cry again and whatever a crazy part of me convinced me to hug him. Tom walked me home and talked to my mother. I stayed in my room, peeking through my door to see what was going on. All I saw was my mom nodding and smiling. Then, Tom left. I went to my bed. My mother came in the room and sat in the edge of my bed. " I quit my job," I told her.She said, " I know" in a calm voice and nodded. Then, she explained something that I would have never expected to hear her say. " Sometimes life gives us good and sometimes it gives us bad. It's never easy. We are alway cut away from the good times in life and it goes bad for a while. Sometimes though, when we get the thread out we can sew it back together to have the good times again." She looked at me I nodded my headed and smiled before she kissed my head and I slowly fell asleep. I was in the jungle for the very last time with Little Black Sambo. This time, we both had the things that were close to us.We all ate pancakes made from the evil in our lives which we had turned good. And we were happy.
