CONNECTIONS

The next morning, Jake stood on the doorstep of Marc's mansion, his heart pounding with anticipation.

He had come here to check on Roséa and Earl, knowing that Marc's obligations in Italy had kept him from doing so himself.

As he rang the doorbell, he could hear the faint sound of footsteps approaching from inside.

The door swung open, revealing the helper who worked for Marc and Roséa.

She looked surprised to see Jake standing there, a mix of curiosity and caution in her eyes. Jake wasted no time and asked, "Excuse me, I'm looking for Rosea. Can you tell me where she is?"

The helper hesitated, her gaze shifting nervously. She was aware of Rosea's preference for privacy, and Jake's sudden appearance might arouse suspicion.

Just as the helper was about to respond, a voice called out from the kitchen, "Who is it, Maria?"

Jake's heart skipped a beat as Rosea's voice reached his ears.

He hadn't anticipated encountering her directly, but now there was no turning back.

He braced himself and prepared to face her, hoping she wouldn't recognize him as one of Marc's mates.

Rosea appeared at the doorway, her eyes widening in surprise. She studied Jake for a moment, a flicker of recognition crossing her face, but she couldn't recall his name. "Do I know you?" she asked politely, trying to place him.

Jake quickly thought on his feet, not wanting to reveal his true identity.

He decided to go along with Rosea's confusion, hoping to avoid any suspicion. "We haven't formally met," he replied, offering a polite smile. "I'm Jake, a friend of Marc. He asked me to drop by and check on you and Earl while he's away."

Rosea's expression softened, and a warm smile spread across her face. "Oh, how kind of Marc to send you. Please come in." She gestured for Jake to enter the mansion.

Jake hesitated for a moment, aware of his hidden agenda and the need to maintain his cover. "I'm afraid I can't stay. I have some urgent matters to attend to."

Rosea's smile faded slightly, disappointment glimmering in her eyes.

She was genuinely curious about this person who had been tasked with looking after her and Earl in Marc's absence. "At least have a cup of tea with me before you go. I'd like to thank you for everything you've done for us."

Jake couldn't resist Rosea's genuine warmth and sweetness. He knew he couldn't stay long, but a brief moment of respite wouldn't hurt. With a nod, he accepted her offer. "Alright, just a quick cup of tea then."

As they entered the kitchen, Rosea motioned for Jake to take a seat while she prepared the tea. Jake observed her movements, impressed by her grace and poise.

It was clear to him why Marc held such deep affection for her.

As they sat down, Rosea poured the tea and turned her attention back to Jake. "You mentioned earlier that Marc sent you to check on us when I was pregnant with Earl. Is that true?"

Jake nodded, a sense of pride swelling within him. "Yes. I was tasked with delivering letters, and bouquets, and ensuring your well-being during that time. It was an honor to be a part of that journey."

Rosea's eyes shimmered with gratitude as she sipped her tea. "Thank you, Jake. I remember feeling so overwhelmed and emotional during those months. Knowing that Marc had someone looking out for us brought me comfort. You have no idea how much that meant to me."

A genuine smile spread across Jake's face, touched by Rosea's appreciation. "I'm glad I could be there for you, even in a small way. Marc treasures you and Earl more than anything in this world. He'll be back soon, I promise."

As Jake finished his tea, he knew it was time to leave. He expressed his gratitude once again to Rosea for her hospitality and reassured her that Marc would return shortly.

Jake made his way to his car, his mind still filled with the warmth of his encounter with Roséa.

As he reached the vehicle, he couldn't help but notice a young woman walking towards the mansion with a bag slung over her shoulder. Their eyes met, and Jake couldn't help but smile at her.

Lily returned Jake's smile with a shy one of her own. She had a striking resemblance to her sister, with the same delicate features and a captivating presence.

Jake's curiosity was piqued, wondering what business Lily had at the mansion.

As Lily approached, Jake greeted her with a friendly nod. "Good day, miss. Are you heading to the mansion?"

Lily nodded, her voice gentle yet filled with determination. "Yes, I am. I'm Lily, Rosea's sister. And you are?"

Jake extended his hand toward her. "Nice to meet you, Lily. I'm Jake, a friend of Marc. I was just checking in on Rosea and Earl."

Lily's eyes lit up with recognition. "Oh, Marc has mentioned you. He speaks highly of you and your loyalty to the family."

Jake's smile widened at the mention of Marc's words. "I'm honored to have earned his trust. Is there anything I can help you with?"

Lily glanced at the bag on her shoulder, her expression a mix of determination and vulnerability. "Actually, I've come to stay with Rosea for a while. I've had some personal matters to attend to, and it seemed like the right time to be here for her."

Jake nodded understandingly. "I'm sure Rosea will appreciate having you by her side."

Lily's gaze softened, and a hint of gratitude graced her features. "Thank you. It means a lot to hear that."

With a shared understanding, Jake bid Lily farewell, offering his assistance if she ever needed it. He watched as she continued her journey toward the mansion, carrying with her a sense of determination and support for her sister.
