Chapter 5: Awkward

Y/n's pov:

I groaned as I heard my alarm go off, I was ready for the weekend. I got out of bed slowly and put on some simple comfy shorts with a band shirt, I didn't care to much about my hair since I needed to curl it when I got home. I didn't wear makeup either since I needed to also do that for this stupid dinner, I couldn't wait to get that stupid thing over with. I then grabbed my bag and went downstairs, I grabbed a bottle of sprite and I got into my moms car since she was waiting for me already. She smiled and started to drive, "excited for tonight sweetie" I sighed and said "I guess so", I was not excited. I would have to be with Michael all night, who knows what will happen tonight. I finally got to school, it felt like the longest car ride to school, the silence was unbearable. I said goodbye to my mom and started towards the entrance of the high school.

I didn't see Michael which was odd but whatever, he probably stayed up way to late and then overslept but what would I know. I walked to my first class and since the teacher wasn't there yet I put curlers in my hair so I wouldn't have to worry about it tonight. I probably would look ridiculous walking around with these in my hair but I didn't care, I wanted to look somewhat okay for this dumb dinner at least for Clara. Definitely just to make her happy. I barely paid attention in class since it was just reading, and I could care less if I failed my tests.

I just did the bare minimum for each of my classes and once the bell rang for my last class made my way towards my locker so I could leave. I grabbed my stuff and walked out the school towards my mom's car, she smiled as I got in. "Hi sweetie, excited for tonight" she asked I shrugged and said "I dunno" she nodded and started to drive. Once we got home I grabbed a glass of water and went upstairs to get ready, I decided I would keep the curlers in while I do my makeup so I don't mess them up while doing it. I pushed my hair back behind my skincare headband and started on my makeup, I wanted to have a good base so I put on foundation and other basic stuff. I then did cateye eyeliner and put some black glitter on my lids to make them pop, I then applied dark maroon lipstick, I had to admit I looked pretty nice.

After I was done with all of that I took out my curlers, my hair looked really nice. I then checked the time and saw it was only 4:30 so I had about an hour until I needed to leave. I looked for jewelry to wear and I decided on diamond studs and a velvet choker, I probably looked to alternative for Williams liking but I didn't really care because I looked hot. And I decided to finally put on my dress, it fit just as perfect as the day I got it if not more. My hips perfectly clung to it and I must say my boobs looked great in this dress. I put on some tights since I didn't want to bother with shaving my legs and put on platforms. I hope I still looked presentable enough, I'm sure I did?

I then but a black headband in my hair and walked downstairs "aww sweetie you look lovely" my mom said as she walked towards me to give me a hug. I smiled "really?" I said, she nodded as she pulled away from the hug "really" I smiled and grabbed my purse. I waited a few minutes for the Aftons to arrive and eventually I heard a car honk, I looked out the window to see Williams car I told my mom goodbye and walked towards the car. I sat in the back with Michael and Clara's face lit up "wow honey you look gorgeous" she said, I smiled and said "really, I'm not overdressed" Clara laughed and said "of course not!". It was about a 20 minute drive to the venue, I didn't speak much just random small talk, Michael obviously didn't talk but I could feel his eyes on me multiple times.

We got to the place and it looked quite nice, it was an Italian restaurant. Not surprised. They must have rented the place out for the night, it doesn't surprise me, the Aftons were pretty wealthy so of course their friends would be to. We got out of the car and I followed behind Michael, we walked in and a woman immediately welcomed us "nice to see you all, especially you Clara" the woman smiled and said. Clara laughed and said "thank you Janice" Janice nodded and looked at me "well who is this" I looked up at her "uh y/n duke" she smiled and shook my hand "nice to meet you, I'm Janice evergreen" I smiled. William went over to Henry, I remember meeting him at the pizzeria he is quite nice. Clara seemed to have gone off with Janice so now it was just me and Michael, I rolled my eyes and sat at a table that was empty, he sat at the same table but not next to me.

It was a few minutes of just sitting in silence with the sound of adults chattering in the background and Michael groaned and said "is this how it's going to be all night". I shrugged and said "maybe" he rolled his eyes and said "I don't know why my parents decided to bring you". I smirked and said "maybe because I am a kind girl who they like" he rolled his eyes again "whatever, she's probably just happy I have a friend who isn't a bad influence" he said. "Friend?" I laughed, he groaned and said "acquaintance", I laughed slightly and he did to. Clara walked over to me and said "y/n?" I turned to her and smiled "yes" I said, "would you be able to babysit Evan and Elizabeth Tuesday night, Janice and her husband invited me and William out that day". I nodded and said "of course, I love hanging out with them" she smiled and said "great I'll tell you more info on Tuesday" I nodded and turned back around.

Michael rolled his eyes "she doesn't understand that I am perfectly capable of watching them" I laughed "are you though?" He rolled his eyes again and rested his chin on his hand. I took a moment to notice what he was wearing, he wore a black short sleeved button up with dark jeans and a tie, his hair looked quite attractive as well. I don't even know if he's noticed my outfit yet but I obviously didn't care.

I was starving, I saw there was a buffet full of Italian food and I started to get up to go over there "hey Michael do you want anything" he looked up "oh uh sure get me some bread sticks, thanks I guess" I nodded and made my way over there. I got some bowtie pasta for myself and put some spices on it and then I got a thing of bread sticks for me and Michael to share, I also got him some pasta just in case. If he didn't want it I would eat it. I walked back to our table and set down the food, he smiled slightly and said "oh thanks for getting me pasta" I nodded and started eating. The food was delicious, me and Rebecca would have to come here sometime. Once me and Michael were done a waiter took our plates, it was pretty awkward now and I sadly don't think Clara and William were leaving anytime soon.

I could feel Michael's eyes on me but just ignored it, "do you hate me" I asked Michael, he looked up "what?" I sighed "sorry that was a stupid question" I got up to go use the restroom but he grabbed my hand "no, no I don't hate you y/n" I blushed slightly. He removed his hand and smiled I smiled back and went to the restroom. Once I got back me and Michael just sat there until finally Clara and William were ready to go, I got in the car and Clara drove me home. We got to my house and I said "thank you for inviting me" Clara smiled and said "of course bye sweetheart" I smiled and waved them goodbye Michael slightly smiled and waved me bye.

I got into the house and realized it was 10:00, no wonder I was so tired. My parents were watching television with their pajamas on I smiled and sat down, "hi sweetie" my mom said my dad waved at me and smiled "how did it go" he said. I said "it went fine that place has really good food" my mom nodded and said "well that's nice, now how about you get in pajamas and I can fix you a snack if you'd like" I smiled and said "sure thanks mom".

I went up to my room and changed into my flower nightgown, I wiped off my makeup and put my skincare headband on and walked back downstairs. Me and my parents ate some popcorn and watched television. Around 11:00 I decided to get ready for bed, I walked back upstairs into my room and did my skincare and then made my bed cozy and put some relaxing music on. I told my parents goodnight and went to sleep.
