A/N: I'm not sure if calling this a Burnetspot oneshot is entirely accurate, because it focuses on the whole family - Burnet, Silverspot, Blue and Luna. Either way, it's in the oneshot book, so I titled and tagged it as Burnetspot.
Anyways, in this one: Silverspot and Burnet watch their second egg hatch. This takes place around six years before the events of the Lost Continent. It's a very short oneshot, but it's all I think it needs to be, and I hope you like it! :)

Summary as written on AO3: Burnet, Silverspot, and their first dragonet Luna, watch their second egg hatch.

Life as a SilkWing in the Hives was not easy. Not only was that just one way to put it, that was an incredibly generous way to put it. Silverspot, in particular, lived what she would consider quite the average SilkWing life, if not one dappled occasionally with small liberties most SilkWings weren't lucky enough to get.
When she wasn't working for her mistress, she was usually at home. The area of Cicada Hive she lived in was quiet and filled with SilkWings quite like her, a place where she felt she could get some peace of mind. Short-lived peace of mind, albeit, but some peace of mind nonetheless. And during the day, when she wasn't being sent out to work on strengthening the Hive bridges, she was with her partner, Burnet. The partner who, to her everlasting surprise, the queen had admitted her to choose for herself. And of course, she was with her eggs, too.
Or, now, her singular egg.
Because one of them, the light green one with the whorls of yellow, was now a six-day-old dragonet. Luna, they called her. "Moon" in Pantalan; they'd both always thought it was one of the prettiest words in the old language. From the moment she hatched, she'd been a rowdy one. Rolled right out of her egg and bounded around the web, with Silverspot having to pull her back out of fear that she'd topple right out of the Hive. The dragonet had squirmed in her mother's hold, flexing her wingbuds as though she expected wings to miraculously pop out of them, so she could fly all the way to the moons she was named after.
That thought had made Silverspot frown a little. She had glanced at Luna, thinking that the tiny dragon certainly shone as brightly as her namesake, sat in all her glory between Silverspot's gentle talons.
If only she could fly all the way up into the sky. If only she could fly far, far away from the life Silverspot knew she'd been born into. Her perfect little Luna, joyfully oblivious of everything. Oblivious of the fact that she had been bred simply to add to Queen Wasp's slowly growing collection of flamesilks. She couldn't bear the thought of it. That one day, Luna's Metamorphosis would have to come around, and that would be the last time Silverspot ever saw her daughter.
To the HiveWings, it was a selfish, treasonous thought. But to her, it was nothing more than a wish for a better life. For all of them. Because all she wanted was for Luna to emerge from her cocoon a normal SilkWing. Of course, being a flamesilk was a wonderful thing, and if it weren't for Queen Wasp's abuse of their abilities, she'd have been overjoyed to find out that her daughter was one of them, but... it wasn't the same in this day and age. She hoped Luna would take after her instead of Admiral. She hoped the queen would see her regular silk and disregard her.
All she could do was hope, and it was unbearable.
But, flamesilks or not, she would always love her dragonets. Luna, and their little Blue, whose name had come to Burnet the moment she first saw his egg. It was a vibrant azure shot through with littler flecks of purple and green, and Silverspot remembered when Burnet had shown it to her, fondly whispering that she could already picture what he would look like when he pushed his way out of his shell.
And now, marvelling at the tiny little snout that poked through a crack spreading across the surface of the egg, all of Burnet's descriptions came rushing back. She'd been so right.
"He's wonderful," she murmured, burying her head in Burnet's neck and curling her tail more tightly around a bumbling Luna, who was watching in awe with her parents. The snout that had fought its way out of the shell was a lavender purple colour, and the dragonet's nostrils were flared as though he was irritated by his struggle to break out.
"Isn't he?" Burnet whispered back to her with a catch in her voice. "I just want to reach out and crack open the shell a bit more. You know? To help him. But I wouldn't want to hurt him." Silverspot had thought exactly the same thing. She'd been tempted to help him out, but he was just so little and tender, and she felt it would be so easy to accidentally hurt the baby dragonet.
Nevertheless, it appeared Luna had shared their thought, too, because before Silverspot could stop her, she'd clambered over her mother's tail and to her brother's egg, where she had begun to claw at the crack and coo mushed-up syllables at the dragonet inside it. Silverspot knew she was too small to do any harm, so she only chuckled softly, tenting a pair of wings over Burnet's back and smiling at her dragonets.
With a bit of help from his sister, Blue eventually climbed his way out and proceeded to flop heavily onto the web below. Immediately, Burnet scooped him up in her talons and held him between herself and Silverspot, letting Luna lean on her talon so she could see him as well.
He was beautiful. Perfect in every way. His scales were an iridescent gradient of purple to blue, with hints of a more greenish colour peeking through here and there. His wingbuds were small and tightly curled, shimmering a brighter lavender than the rest of his scales. In fact, every part of him seemed to shimmer. Like he and Luna were beacons of light in the dark world Silverspot and Burnet lived in.
"He has your eyes," she whispered to Burnet, peering into her partner's grey-blue irises for a moment. "Blue. Like his name."
Burnet nudged her snout with Silverspot's. "He sure does."
Luna giggled and tapped Blue's nose with her talon, and he looked at her inquisitively with those wide, blue eyes. Then he smiled at her, joining in with her chorus of giggling.
Silverspot and Burnet couldn't hold in their affectionate giggles either. The world was a scary place when you were a SilkWing under Queen Wasp's overbearing rule, but there were times when all the fear and despair fizzled out. Just like now. Because now, for just a moment, everything was perfect.
