EMMALINE POV

When you’re a mythical being it tends to make having a normal life slightly more difficult, especially when you’ve just turned eighteen. Today was supposed to be a special day; the day I Emmaline Covington – Emma for short – became unstoppable among my kind. Unfortunately I was cursed with the most horrid parents placed on this earth.

‘Emmaline, listen to you father when he’s talking to you.’ My mother growled from her safe place at my father’s side. I reckon she would have been a beautiful woman once. Before she met my father and gave birth to me, you see it is difficult running a monarchy and that problem was soon to be passed to me. I was not looking forward to taking the role protection over my people against the ruthless Devonport clan.

‘Why must I listen to him?’ I asked. ‘He never listens to me.’

‘Oh lord, why did you curse me with this arrogant daughter when I could have had a thriving son?’ My father asked looking towards the ceiling.

‘Oh lord, why must you of cursed me with such horrid, unloving and ungrateful parents? Living with peasant and working in the fields would make less of a chore.’ I said mimicking my father’s movements. That comment earned me a hard strike across my cheek. As my head jerked to the side a shot pain went down my neck paired with a sting in my sure to be crimson cheek that was heating up.

‘You will never speak of this family like that again.’ He spat in my face. ‘Do you understand?’ I did not answer. ‘Do you understand?’ He repeated now yelling it to my face.

‘Yes sir.’ He only nodded and the turned leaving me and my mother standing in the foyer. She made a move to comfort me not that a wanted before my father intercepted. ‘Marianna, come.’ She looked back at me before turning to follow my father up the large stair case leading to the second floor.

‘Happy Birthday to me,’ I yelled up to them before retreating to the floor door and slamming it behind me before they could get another word in. I really don’t think that it a natural feeling to complete loathing towards your own parents, your flesh and blood, the only reason that you entered this world in the first place. But in my case in with clear that not being born at all was better than being born into such a family as mine.

ZACKARY POV

It was official in two weeks from now I was to become the new ruler of the Devonport clan and I was sure not looking forward to what was to follow it. I Zackary Devonport – better known as Zack – was to now take command of five thousand soldiers and seven thousand peasants and protecting  them from our kinds only living enemy clan The Covington’s. And this was all expected of me at the age of eighteen; it was insanity if you ask me, which coincidently no one was.

‘Son,’ my father yelled from somewhere in the house. ‘Where are you?’

‘The front room,’ I yelled back knowing what I was going to get lectured about.

‘Zackary,’ father yelled as he entered the room. ‘William has informed me yet again that you have not shown your face at any of your training session this week. You are to be ruler soon and so far all you have shown is you complete lack interest in anything related to the subject. You’re proving to be as useless as your mother and you’re aware of what happens to the useless in this province.’ I flinched at my father hash words as he referred to my mother.

She was one of his many wives that he used just to create his own male progeny for the throne Devonport clan which was evidently me. He killed every woman that was not successful to his request; unfortunately he even seemed to feel the need to kill the one woman that actually was successful because she was useless as he like to remind me.

‘You want to know what’s useless the trainer you insist I take that I no longer need, I-‘

‘Do not be a defiant child,’ He interrupted with a yell, ‘you will train till you can no longer walk no you understand?’ At that moment I should have back down but I didn’t feel like giving up, I had push the boundaries a little more defiance was what I was good at.

‘Or what?’ thunder boom through the hall of our eerie castle.

‘Or what, or what? I will end you boy,’ the lighting outside dramatically dropped. Fathem’s of the highest ranks were known for the talents in witchery and mind control me being well aware of my father’s abilities to do both should have shut me up but his blunt rage only made me want to retaliate all the more.

‘And I shall end you father, I do not fear you.’ I yelled over the thunder still rumbling but it was soon replaced with the rumble of my father’s laughter at the threat I just throw at him.

‘Boy you should fear me, with one thought I can throw you to your knees and make you beg for mercy. When you boy can control the weaker of our species I might actually consider your threat.’ He said with a wicked smile and with that he walked away leaving his black magic in the skies as a reminder that I one day would use it against him. He’d be the one on his knees begging for mercy at my feet, I would succussed.
