Kate's birthday happens to be tonight and I am not mentally or emotionally or physically prepared. I barely slept last night, no thanks to Tyler. Still in bed, I rolled towards my nightstand and grabbed my alarm clock.

6:34AM

I groaned in frustration. But you know what they say, the early bird gets the worm. I sluggishly slid off my bed and onto the cold floor. Immediately, I received goosebumps all over. I jolt awake and slipped into my slippers. Grabbing my glasses off the stand, I shuffled out of my room and towards the kitchen.
I swear, the pace that I was moving at was slower than a grandma walking with a cane.

After doing my daily bathroom routine, I went to the kitchen and decided to do something useful for once: make breakfast. Usually my father does it, but the table has turned! I grabbed all the materials from the pantry and fridge and did exactly what Youtube videos have taught me.

Do it for dad. Don't try to poison him.

I made several pancakes in minutes. Not bad for a beginner, I would say.

"Woah! I knew I smelled something good." Just as I was about to flip a pancake, I nearly dropped the pan.

"Jesus Christ dad! Walk a little louder next time. You would've had one less pancake to eat."

"I don't know if my heart could bear hearing 'less pancake'." He placed a hand over his chest as he walked over to the island.

"Yeah. Neither can mine. Go grab the syrup and plates." I scooped up the last pancake from the pan and placed it onto the pancake stack.

"Carefully, and I mean take as much time as you need, bring them over to the counter." He eyed the stack like a hawk as I steadily set it onto the island.

"Mission accomplished." My dad let out a breath that he had unknowingly held in. I scoffed and grabbed several pancakes onto my plate. He grinned and took the rest.

"Hey! Don't be like that." I took two more from the stack. Grabbing a banana, I sliced several pieces onto our pancakes.

Like father, like daughter.

"So, what got you up so early?" He asked after chewing.

"Nothing important. I couldn't sleep." I stabbed my pancake as I remembered Kate.

"Hey, don't take it out on the pancakes. They don't deserve it."

"Ye-" I was interrupted by the doorbell. I furrowed my eyebrows at my father as he shrugged his shoulders.

"Probably some early-morning advertisers. They'll go away soon." We continued eating but the ringing of the bell never stopped.

"Coming!" Already cranky enough from lack of sleep, I stomped to go open the door.

"How may I- what the hell?!" I quickly stepped outside and closed the door behind me.

"Well good morning to you too." There stood Tyler, early in the morning in front of my house. MY HOUSE. I crossed my arms to not only cover my pjs but also protect myself from the morning breeze.

"Why are you here? In front of my house for Christ sakes."

"I'm giving you a free ride to school." He shoved his hands into his pockets and grinned a cheeky smile.

"I can just grab the bus like usual. Now go on. I'll see you later at school." I shooed him away and turned the knob to go back in. Just as it turned, his larger hand covered mine and pushed its way through. Instantly, I fell forward as someone heavier was shoving me.
