"My feet hurt..."

"Shut up," I snapped at Nadia's stupid whining that had broken through the otherwise silent night as the three of us trudged on, back towards Nadia's apartment building. It was still quite a ways away, so I could understand her discomfort, although I did not care for it.

She glared over at me, her semi-blood covered arms shivering and I almost felt back for her, but then I quickly reminded myself not to; she was not worthy of my concern.

"You're such an ass," she grumbled under her breath, her voice extremely bitter, bitterer than I've ever heard it before.

I ignored her comment though, just shoving my hands in the front pockets of my blood stained jeans as Jeff laughed a little, shaking his head, "You know what? She's right; Jacky, you are an ass."

"You can shut up too," I challenged, pushing him roughly as he stumbled a little before draping an arm over my shoulder, having to push himself up higher to comfortably reach my shoulders.

He laughed, "Someone's got a temper tonight, doesn't he?"

I raised an eyebrow in his direction, my tone quite condescending, "You aren't exactly an angel yourself, Jeff."

He scoffed, "What? I practically have a fucking halo floating over my head everywhere I go."

"Says the animal who laughed while he killed innocent people..." Nadia interjected, her voice laced with venom and spite.

Jeff rolled his eyes, leaving my side to tug on her wrist, forcing her to walk as fast as Jeff and I were and she flinched, quickly pulling her hand away, "I don't have a temper darling; I'm just a sick bastard, is all!"

"No kidding," she mumbled, keeping up with our speed, but moving onto the sidewalk, a little farther away from us.

Jeff and I were in the street that was barren of many cars, taking the long way back in order to avoid the wandering eyes of civilians who were up past their bed time. The sky was still shroud in darkness as clouds concealed the stars, light years away, and there was a cool wind that blew through the air, chilling to say the least. The stench of blood lingered on us all, and I could feel the dry substance on my skin and caught in my hair. My stomach was still slowly churning with hunger, but I dared the desire to die away for a while since I didn't simply want to devour Nadia here and now. No, I was going to wait until the circumstances were incredibly prefect.

Another siren sounded in the distance, closer this time and something in the air shifted as I stopped, listening to the trail of the police vehicle, neighborhoods away, estimating that it was on its way towards us.

"What is it Lassie?!" Jeff asked jokingly with incredible sarcasm, earning a roll of the eyes from Nadia as I held up a hand to silence him, listening a moment longer.

I sighed a little as the sirens spiraled closer and I looked over my shoulder at Nadia, pointing towards her ankle bracelet, "In three, two...one..."

The predictable beeping sounded around her ankle, the little machine surely notifying the approaching police car. Jeff raised an eyebrow, looking annoyed, as I must've too. It had crossed my mind just a little while ago that we were far from the border of Nadia's inclusive zone, meaning a police car had been notified to seek her so that she'd have to have a serious conversation with her parole officer.

"Make the beeping stop please, genius," Jeff whined at me, the small noise seeming to annoy him greatly.

Nadia bent down, tapping at the little machine, although that was pointless, "I can remove it," I admitted, looking towards the end of the street where a police car was surely turning the corner, "But for now, we wait it out."
