As steady streams of light shone through the cracks of the fragile, aging warehouse, I sighed into the feeling of yet another hour ticking by. I was patient though, waiting from the minute she had fallen asleep to the second she'd awaken, not daring to fall asleep on my own; I cherished the sound of her gentle breath as she dreamed. I thought hard about what she had said last night, about how she wanted to become like me to escape her deadly fate. I understood, truly I did, but she didn't understand what a risk I'd be taking and how awful of an idea it was. I knew how I'd change her, that is, if I ever agreed to it. But I wasn't sure of the complete outcome of the ordeal, and I didn't want to find out either. Honestly, Nadia as a killer? That's absurd. But as I lay here beside her, I also found myself dreading the morning sun to rise, knowing that I'd have to follow through and end her short, somewhat miserable life. I don't want to take her from the world, but we must do what we must do...

I looked down as Nadia mumbled against my chest, her eyes blinking open hesitantly as she slowly became aware of her surroundings and the fact that she had woken up, "Morning."

She glanced up through locks of midnight black hair, a small, almost nonexistent smile on her pink lips, "Already?"

There was self-pity in her tone and I nodded sadly, "It would seem so."

She looked down at herself before sitting up on her elbows, rubbing at her sleepy eyes as the already smudged eyeliner became even more muddied, "Oh."

"How did you sleep?" I asked quietly, watching as she yawned a little.

"Okay, I guess," she answered with a small shrug before looking at me, "What about you? Did you get any sleep?"

I shook my head, sighing a little from the fatigue in my head, "No."

She looked a tad bit confused as she lay back down again, exhaling sleepily as she did so, "Why not?"

I shrugged, "I was watching you."

"Creep," she accused with a short giggle.

"Am not," I defended, smiling as well, "I'll have you know that I was making sure you didn't wake up in the middle of the night and try to escape."

She raised her right eyebrow, her voice leaking with sarcasm, "Oh Jacky, you're a cannibalistic murderer who is not completely human and is holding me against my will and going to kill me. Why would I ever want to run?"

"Silence you, with your dark sarcasm..." I whined with a small chuckle as I pressed my pointer finger against her pink, grinning lips.

She held my finger with her own, moving them from her lips as she laced her fingers with mine, letting our conjoined hands rest on her chest as she breathed calmly. I watched her in the comfortable silence as she watched me back, her eyes pleasant, yet sorrowful all at once.

"Jack..." She spoke after a while, her voice delicate in texture.

"Hm?" I asked quietly, partially acknowledging that she had called out to me, and partially just admiring her beauty.

She grinned a bit, her voice sweet, "Could I ask you to do something for me?"

I could already feel a pinch of anxiety, and by the look in her eyes, I could sense the arising task, "What?"

She hesitated before asking as she reached over, touching one finger to the cheek of my mask, "Take this off, please, just for me?"

I couldn't help the annoyed sigh that escaped my lips and I rolled onto my back, watching the ceiling, "Nadia, you know I can't-"

"Why can't you, huh?" She asked, scooting over so that she was right beside me with one elbow propped on the mattress, her other arm rested over my chest as her hand lay against my collarbone.
