(Killer POV)

She fell asleep soon after we left the port of whatever island that was. (Y/n) hugged herself in her sleep, pressing herself against the wall to give me space. Even in sleep she seemed tense and scared. Perhaps it was because of what she'd went through.

I sighed, resting my head against the headboard. I refused to take my mask off, despite her protests. She said I should take it off and she'd sleep somewhere else so she would be sure to not see anything. I refused and told her to get in the bed and sleep. She had given a defeated sigh before cowering in the bed.

I couldn't deny that she didn't look peaceful. Occasionally, (Y/n)'s nose would scrunch up before she hid her face in the pillow slightly. Wonder what dreams she was having.

My thoughts went back to the bar. While the Captain drank and enjoyed the dances, I knew something was off. I kept a close eye on each girl, trying to figure out what it was that made this situation wrong. That's when (Y/n) came out. She obviously tried hiding her resentment, her fear to continue a dance she wasn't happy with. Once her lips moved, I knew enough of what probably happened to her. That was why I lashed out the way I had.

The other dancers seemed to fear me. But she just stood and watched, an almost hopeful look in her eyes despite the fear that shown in her face.

The man had begged for his life. He said I could take whatever and whichever girl we wanted if it meant he could live. When I looked and saw how relieved (y/n) was just hiding under Kid's coat, I felt some relief wash over me too. I told him the thing I wanted was his life before killing him.

I went to walk out until two girls stopped me. They flirted and tried convincing me to stay. I refused and continued to stomp off. That's when they also mentioned (Y/n). They were jealous Kid took her. I had paused my steps and looked back before one came to me and pulled me close forcefully.

"Get away from me." I had told them. They didn't budge, just laughed. That was until the one behind me found the clasp of my mask. I attacked her, lost control even. The other girl also tried doing the same, wanting my mask off. I acted them both, not even hearing the screams until I came back fully. I'd become a monster protecting a girl I didn't even know.

I slightly hit my head repeatedly on the headboard. Why'd they have to touch my mask? The only person who even knows my face is Kid. It's known I kill anyone for trying to take my mask. I become a monster when anyone touches it...

A small groan brought my attention back to (Y/n). She groaned as she hugged herself closer, her (y/h/c) hair getting slightly messy. Her hands shook and she seemed like it was a nightmare.

I placed a hand on her shoulder, pulling her closer. Jesus, what had this girl been through? Her head rested against my side as she settled a tiny bit, her body shaking only slightly. (Y/n) had calmed down, seeming to be comfortable again.

I looked at her as she slept. I rubbed my thumb on her shoulder. It was nice to know she felt comfortable again. It felt weird having a girl in my arms since it'd been forever. Not even that, it felt odd even having someone trust me (besides Kid). I assumed this girl trusted me at least. Why else would she calm down from me holding her?

Sleep stung at my eyes. I yawned after staying up for so long, not able to find sleep until now. I sunk down further in the bed, making sure (Y/n) was still asleep and pressed against my side. The bed was softer than usual but it didn't take long for me to find sleep as well.
