They had been at the theater, watching an elegant ballet, when Dancers dressed in horrifying bat costumes came onto the stage. The young boy was frightened, as he pleaded with his parents to go anywhere else, to which they agreed. This was the Wayne family. Martha and Thomas had been happily married for some time, and their wonderful son, Bruce, was turning 8 soon.  They felt as though all was right with the world and promised to take their son to a sweets shop. They exited through the back way, and out into a darkened Alley.

There were a couple of homeless people, but other than that, everything seemed mostly deserted. The Wayne family walked down, cheerfully discussing how they'd celebrate their young son's birthday that weekend. A man approached them, his face covered in a ski mask. He pointed a gun at Martha. She looked alarmed. Her husband got between the gun and his family. "What do you want from us?" He demanded. The man smirked. "All your valuables, now." He said. They didn't hesitate. Bruce, who hadn't brought anything of value with him, offered the man his lollipop.  The man smirked at the boy.

"You know, candy rots your teeth." He told Bruce, he shrugged. The man's gaze shifted to Martha. "Necklace too." He told her. He shot her while she was unclasping the pearl necklace. Thomas looked shocked, as he caught his wife. This earned him a bullet to the head. Bruce dropped his lollipop, and was about to run to his parents, when the gun was pointed at him. He froze like a deer in headlights. "Remember that I didn't kill you tonight, kid." He told Bruce, and he fled.

Batman was pulled from his thoughts, and that painful memory as he heard gunshots ringout through the air. It was go time.
