Sunday, race day

When Julia got up the next morning, it was raining cats and dogs in Italy. But that didn't detract from what she was feeling right now. She felt as if she'd been on cloud nine since her kiss with Carlos the day before. Lying in bed, her eyes riveted on the ceiling, Julia smiled stupidly as she replayed last night's scene in her mind.

— I've been dreaming of doing this all evening, Carlos confessed as their lips parted.
— I admit I've thought about it too, Julia admitted.

Carlos had smiled wider, resting his forehead against the Frenchwoman's. Little did they know that Charles was just a few yards away, heartbroken.

Julia snapped back to reality. She had to concentrate today, she had a race to run, and performances to improve. She finally got up and went for a shower. For once, she wore classic clothes, black jeans and T-shirt with a McLaren sweatshirt over them. She grabbed her things and left her room, heading for the elevator.

— Julia Amanda Marie Vidal !

Julia was startled to hear Pierre calling her from across the hall. He reached her and placed a kiss on her cheek, which she returned.

— What's happened to you now ?
— I want to know EVERYTHING ! exclaimed Pierre.
— You're really the Gossip Girl of the paddock, damn it, Julia laughed as they entered the elevator.
— I love gossip, so spill the tea now bitch, he replied, sweeping the air with a wave of his hand.

Julia burst out laughing, Pierre was a real clown when he put his mind to it.

— But there's nothing to know, Gasly, denied the young woman.
— Do you think I've got "idiot" written all over me ? I've seen you two talking all evening, and I don't think you were playing cards when he walked you to your room.
— All right, we kissed, Julia blurted out.
— I knew it ! exclaimed the Frenchman.
— But you keep your mouth shut and keep it to yourself, I'm warning you ! she threatened as the elevator doors opened onto the first floor.

Her friend mimed a zipper over his mouth, and Julia rolled her eyes. She knew she could trust Pierre. The two of them made their way to the breakfast room, where Charles was already alone. He was staring into space, not even noticing the arrival of his two friends. He seemed very pensive, which immediately intrigued them.

The two pilots helped themselves and joined the Monegasque, who gasped as they took their seats.

— Well, Charlie, what's the matter with you ? asked Pierre, checking him out.
— You seemed to be lost in thought, added Julia, who placed a kiss on his cheek as she settled down beside him.
— Yeah, sorry, I was thinking about the race in this weather, muttered Charles, his heart pounding after Julia's kiss.
— It's going to be complicated indeed, grinned the Frenchman, but I don't think it'll last all day.
