"I tried convincing my parents why it was a great idea to get a pet. Even had a flow chart and everything," she said, laughing. "An epic fail."
I laughed. What went wrong?
"The cat I wanted had too many things that need to be taken care off. Apparently I'm not ready for that kind of responsibility."
Then give the pet idea a rest for now, I said. Start slow and look after a plant.
I'd much prefer a plant over a pet.
"Of course you would," she said with a change in tone. A tone that I picked up on.
Everything I was thinking in that instant dissappeared. Her statement rubbed me the wrong way, so I asked, feeling attacked:
What are you implying?
"Plants are easier to control, right? They behave exactly in the way you expect—"
Are you calling me controlling?
"Finally!" She exclaimed. "Finally, we're getting somewhere."
We're finally reaching the centre of the problem.
