The sun had come up and we were floating in the middle of nowhere.
At least we were out of the fog.
"Do you have a habit of bumping into people?" The familiar man asked.
"Oh, it's you," I recognised him, "No I try not to but my mind just...I don't know."
"Right," he had one leg bent and the other relaxed against the floor of the lifeboat, "We'll my name is Tobias."
"Okay, Tobias. I'm Teresa."
He nodded and said, "Teresa."
Tobias got out his pocket knife and began flicking it between his fingers to then close it and put it back. He scanned the sea and kept his gaze on the sunrise.
"Is it common for you to have a backpack in situations like this?" Tobias asked jokingly.
I shrugged, looking at the backpack. "Well I've never been in this situation before but I planned for it because I'm scared of the unknown, I guess."
Tobias' brow rose. "Okay, do you have water? I'm thirsty."
I unzipped my bag and asked, "How thirsty are you?" I took out three two-litre water bottles filled to the brim with water.
"Wow, you weren't kidding about being prepared."
We both laughed at this comment as I put two of the water bottles away to give him one.
"I was kind of prepared for 6 people," I clarified.
Tobias nodded after taking a sip, "Because that's the average max for lifeboats?"
"Well, yeah and I know how stingy people get when you don't share. Now that it's the two of us, I'm sure we can ration the drinks and food and supplies that I've bought."
Hazel eyes met my brown ones and he nodded and then looked back out into the sea.
After (I think) a few hours, I could see green on the horizon behind Tobias' head.
Once we got closer, I woke up Tobias who had fallen asleep.
"Tobias," I shook him awake, "Look," I pointed towards the greenery.
He immediately burst into action and got the oars at the sides of the lifeboat. Rowing, I could help but admire his arms and his broad shoulders. His muscles basically fighting against the shirt he wore.
It got to the point I could hold my thoughts anymore before I whispered, "Fucking hell,"
"What was that?"
"Oh yeah, you're doing well. We're almost there!" I say as a cover-up.
"My own personal hype woman," he grunted as he still rowed the boat then chuckled.
After rowing for forever, we finally reached the island and Tobias got out of the boat to pull it in. I do the same since I was useless at the rowing portion of it.
As soon as the boat was ashore, he dropped down to the sand and lay down, exhausted.
I had my hands on my hips and scanned our surroundings before starting to gather stones and making a large SOS sign on the ground while Tobias took a well-deserved rest.
I finished the sign and walked back to him tucking my bottom lip into my teeth.
"Hey, Teresa," I hummed, turning to him. "Can I have some water?"
"Yes, of course." I got the water from the boat and handed it to him. "You don't have to ask for the water, you know?"
He smiled, "No, you were smart enough to bring it. I don't think it's my place to be taking something that doesn't really belong to me."
