I was brave tonight

Sonic stood beside a big table with lots of different drinks. He watched as everyone danced and cheered their newest victory. They had just finished one of their hardest battles yet. The town decided to throw a party for Sonic and his friends as a thank-you for saving their town once more. Sonic watched as Amy danced, he smiled at the sight. It had been a while since he saw her that happy.

He took a sip from his drink as he watched her. All of a sudden he felt a pat on the back. It was Jack, an old wise man they meet during their battle.

"Sonic the Hedgehog, Hero of Mobius. Why aren't you dancing with your friends?"

"Oh um"

Sonic looked at the dance floor again and spotted Amy leaving it and walking toward the snack table.

"I just don't feel like dancing right now"

Jack looked at Sonic and then back at Amy. He sighed as he poured a drink into his cup.

"You know, she won't be waiting forever"

Sonic choked on his drink and started coughing. He looked at Jack with big wide eyes. He felt his heart begin to race faster than usual.

"What!? Who's waiting!? I don't know what you're talking about!"

He shook his hands side to side in denial. He then looked at Jack's dead expression and sighed.

"Alright fine. I know what you're talking about."

"Go ask her to dance"

"WHAT!?"

"You heard me"

Sonic looked at Amy then back at Jack. His heart pounding hard.

"I can't do that."

"Sonic"

Jack had his arms crossed, a serious look on his face.

"Look kid, we just win a hard battle, but what would have happened if we had failed? You would have lost her. Take this opportunity, you're brave when it comes to being a hero. Be the same for this."

Sonic sighed. He knew he was right. He had today, tomorrow wasn't promised, yet...

"I'm... I'm not brave enough for this yet."

"hmm I understand"

Jack sat down at the chair beside the table and took a sip of his drink.

"I guess the guy that's walking towards her to ask her to dance, will be the one to ends up marrying and having kids with her"

Sonic looked to where Amy was then to her right. There he saw him. Some guy approaching her. Some guy who will ask her to dance. A guy she might like. A guy that would take her away from him forever. Was Sonic going to let all this just happen? 

HECK NO.

He quickly sped towards her, which ended up almost knocking her down. Thankfully before she fell Sonic had grabbed her hand balancing her. 

"Woah! Thanks Sonic for helping me, even though you are the very reason I almost fell" Amy laughed and smiled at him.

Sonic felt his cheeks get hotter. He couldn't process what had just happened but he didn't have time for that right now. The boy was just seconds away from asking her, seconds away from tapping her shoulder, seconds away from taking her forever. Sonic wasn't going to let some unheroic boy take his girl. No matter how scared he was to do what he was going to do.

"DANCE!" 

"What?"

Sonic cleared his throat and spoke once more.

"Want to dance... With me?"

Amy felt her face heat up, Sonic the Hedgehog was asking her to dance. She smiled before quickly grabbing his hand and dragging him to the dance floor. That was around the time Sonic had realized what type of music was on. It was a soft one, one where couples would hold each other close and tight. So that's what they did. Amy placed her head on Sonic's chest and she wrapped her arms around his neck. Sonic's hands were placed on her hips as there feet swung side to side. His eyes were closed just enjoying the moment. He actually asked her.

He opened his eyes and looked around for the boy who was walking up to her earlier and stuck out his tongue at him. His eyes then trailed to the boy behind him. It was Tails, he laughing at the situation.

Turns out he had seen everything that had happened, from the moment Sonic suddenly speed up to Amy making her almost fall to know seeing them slow dance. Tails gave a thumbs up towards Sonic smiling. Sonic rolled his eyes at this but couldn't help but smile as well.

Knuckles and Sticks were too busy fighting over the meaning of fake fruit to notice all of this.

(Knuckles said there weren't fake and tried to eat them while Sticks complained that it was obviously some sort of alien scheme to poison us.)

It surely was a night to remember.
