07 : Hurt

★★★

“Why don't you just tell him? Let him know your reasons. I'm sure he will understand.” Maryam told her gently.

“You know, the thing here isn't about understanding. I know he will understand. In fact, I have no doubt about it.

But you know... Sometimes it's better to save the other person from the hurt. Yes, I know he's hurting now too, but hopefully he will move on from me after thinking of my betrayal. But if he gets to know the truth, he might not be able to move on from me. And I know the guilt, it will keep hurting him and end up killing him one day.

Guilt of knowing and yet not being able to do anything, guilt of not being here for me, guilt of not being able to save me. And I can't- I can't do that... I can't let him drown in guilt when it was never his fault. When it was never in his hands, in any of our hands! And even you know it's too late now, we can't do anything.

And well, isn't hurting for a while better than hurting for a lifetime?” Laila smiled at her best friend, a smile showing her how strong she was, how desperately she was trying to collect herself and remain strong.

Tears were burning her eyes and choking her throat, but she didn't let them fall, at least not in front of her bestie!

She couldn't show her how broken or hurt she herself was. Afterall she was the one who made this move.

“Oh my baby!” Maryam hugged her and she couldn't keep her tears at bay anymore. Hugging her back tightly, she weeped like a kid.

She forgot that her best friend knows her better than herself.

And for a long time, they weeped in each other's embrace. Feeling the pain and hurt, knowing that they don't have much time together anymore…
