A story of whispers left unspoken, unheard.
"I hate you!" He spat venomously through gritted teeth.
"Feelings are mutual." She replied back, smiled and walked away.
He didn't know who she was talking about...
A short story about her life. And ma...
"Waalaikumussalam. I am fine alhamdulillah. How are you and dad?"
"Even we are fine alhamdulillah. What were you doing?"
"Nothing mom, was just missing you guys..."
"Then come home. I have been telling you to come here for a while now but you don't even listen to me!"
"I want to come home too but I have some assignments to complete. And I won't be able to complete them there, even you know that..."
"How many holidays are remaining for you?"
"Around 15 days."
"Then complete your assignments in three to four days and come here!"
"I'll see Mom..."
"Hmmm..."
She had a lot to say and she had even gathered the courage to tell that to her parents today, but when she heard her mom's hopeful voice, it all came crashing down. Still, trying to blink away her tears, she spoke. "Mom?"
"Yes my dear."
"I have to tell you something..." It took every cell in her being to not have a breakdown right there, at that moment.
"What is it?"
"I..." She took a shuddering breath in, unable to force the words out. She had never said anything like this to her parents before. There was no need to. They always used to express their emotions through their actions rather than words.
"Laila..."
"I forgot what I wanted to say." She heard herself replying to her mom and closed her eyes as tears rushed down. "Where is dad?"
She wanted to tell them how much she loved them but even after so many efforts, she couldn't speak her heart out. Her muffled whispers remained unheard once again.
