Chapter 20

(The Next Day)

Team RWBY+Y/N heading to sparring class though, Weiss apparently went ahead for some reason. The three girls and Y/N chat with one another.

Blake: "Thanks for those pointers, Ruby. I'll be able to tune Gambol just fine now."

Ruby: "No problem."

Yang: "Oh yeah. Thanks, sis. You really save me on that test in Grimm studies."

Ruby: "Don't mention it."

Y/N: "You're sure fitting the leader role well."

Ruby scratches the back of her head, giggling a bit.

Ruby: "Ah, well, you know..."

Y/N: "Still, where's our Ice Queen?"

Yang: "I'm guessing she went ahead for some reason."

As they approach the class, they hear a pair of familiar voice around the corner. The four members accidentally eavesdrop to hear Weiss and Glynda discussing.

Weiss: "Is there any possibility of switching teams or having the leader be reassigned?"

Y/N: ("She's really that dead set to be transfer.")

Glynda, however, turns her down, defending Ozpin's judgment on the decision, quoting that.

Glynda: "Miss Schnee. Hundreds of huntsmen and huntresses have graduated from Beacon and that the only times transfers were ever necessary were for some particular reason."

Weiss: "Like what?"

Glynda: "Like one of the teammates could not complete the year."

This puts a bad taste in everyone's mouth, especially Ruby. They head to Glynda's class with some tension between the teammates with Y/N sitting between them. None of it is helped when Glynda announces that it's time to spar partners.

Y/N: ("Ah, great. Well, at least I've gotten better though, I choose to do it at the last minute of class. That's progress at least.")

Glynda: "Up first is... Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee."

Ruby & Weiss: "Huh!?!?"

Y/N: "Oh..."

Weiss: "I refuse. She's unworthy of my talents."

Ruby was taken aback her comment only to retort back.

Ruby: "Hey, I'm a good fighter!"

Ruby knew that Weiss didn't think much of her as a leader but, as a fighter, Ruby has a definitive sense of pride in her skill. Something she thought Weiss had picked up on being partners and in their initiation. Despite Weiss's protest, both her and Ruby are in the class's small arena, facing one another. Glynda, uneasy about the tension, looks at Y/N who just shrug back. Glynda allows the match to happen, emphasizing the rules to keep things from getting out of hand and if either of their aura reaches 15%, then the match is forfeit over unsportsmanlike misconduct. Weiss glances at Glynda.

Weiss: "I know the rules, professor."

Glynda: "Rules change when the stakes are personal, Miss Schnee. It is too bad that the rules don't stay the same when all is said and done. Now bow to your opponent and let's start the match."

Ruby goes to bow, while Weiss reluctantly curtsies to her. Immediately, Ruby and Weiss both get on a fighting stance, staring at each other down before Glynda speaks.

Glynda: "Begin!"

Weiss goes to concentrate to summon a glyph but, Ruby is already rushed forward with her speed, catching Weiss off guard. Using the hook of Crescent Rose, Ruby tosses Weiss into the air and deliver a barrage of bullets to her. Landing on a series of glyphs, Weiss jump through the air to avoid Ruby's attacks, all while firing back with ethereal dust projectiles.
