"Another year without a soul,
Another year on my own,
Christmas will you pass me by?"
Said the mouse all alone.
Christmas eve, the streets were white,
The silence felt like home,
"I hope I won't be cold tonight,"
Said the mouse all alone.
From the sleet approached a friend,
The rabbit loved the snow,
Forcing a smile he waved, "God bless,"
Sighed the mouse all alone.
Then the squirrel passed him by,
A "Merry Christmas," on the go,
"I hope it's merry, even slight,"
Whispered the mouse all alone.
The stoat made tracks and bounded by,
Stopping quick to say hello,
"Blessings to you, I bid goodnight,"
Called the mouse all alone.
The snowflakes in the crisp blue sky,
Sent a chill right through his bones,
"I hope that I can sleep tonight,"
Said the mouse all alone.
His nose stung as he tried to sniff,
Some cheese found in the road,
"I'll cut the mould right off the sides,"
Said the mouse all alone.
Then something struck all those who gazed,
The rabbit, squirrel and stoat,
"Was that our friend all cold as stone,
Spending his Christmas alone?"
Without a word his friends observed,
A king who lost his throne,
"With us right here, our friend out there,
Should never be alone."
So on that night of Christmas eve,
Three friends went to a home,
"Who could that be this time of night?"
Said the mouse not quite alone.
"Dear mouse, dear friend we do descend,
To flood warmth into your home,
You need not be a mouse who spends,
His Christmas time alone."
Now with a tree brimming with light,
And gifts of love on show,
He knew that now for years to come,
He was no longer a mouse alone.

PoetryThis poem will forever hold a special place in my heart and it's a piece I'm extremely proud of. I wrote it as a thank you to the friends who were there for me through my most difficult times and guided me through grief.
