Despite the events that unfolded, it didn't start in a bad way. Stories like this, they usually start off in a dark and stormy night. Grey clouds, thunder rolling across the skies, heavy rain pouring across pavements. And mostly, it happens in the dark and narrow alleyways, in the bedroom while sleeping, or in an abandoned building that is a few pokes closer to crumbling down to debris.

But it did not, in fact, happen in a dark and stormy night.

It was actually a bright and sunny day. Sun shining down in roads while people busied themselves with work and school, with children playing in parks. And the entire thing happened not in a narrow alleyway, but in a flowery meadow blooming to welcome another day of summer.

Here's how it started.

It was a new day in summer. Students of the academy woke up with excitement and trepidation as they get closer to the End of School Year Rites. Two students in particular woke up ready to have fun. Eris Jones and Phillip Martinez woke up, fully prepared in wasting their entire morning staying in school for attendance's sake, then play around throughout town for the rest of the afternoon until the sky gets splattered with the white twinkling stars.

Well, they did not quite wake up that quickly.

Eris, adventurous girl and chaos advocate, laid on the bed staring in the blank cream-colored ceiling. Sleepy hazel eyes watched the sun ray grow across the expanse of her ceiling. She was still deep within her mind so she did not budge when a loud knock came from her bedroom door.

"Eris?" A muffled male voice called from the other side. "Eris! Come on, wake up, sweetie!"

The knocking continued on until the man opened the door with a loud "ERIS!"

The auburn-haired girl shot up from her bed, wide eyes and shoulders hunched with alertedness. "I'm gonna shower!" She then rushed passed the door and her startled father and towards the bathroom, the lock clicking shut behind her.

Her father, Jonathan sighed. "Everyday always. Why is it always like this?"

The man grumbled complaints about her daughter under his breath, knowing full well that he does not mean any of them and is very much wrapped around Eris's finger. Although, he is still in denial about that last part, so it will not be mentioned so obviously again.

Phillip Martinez, gamer extroadinaire and long time best friend and neighbor of Eris, was not fairing any better so early in the morning. While 8 in the morning may not be considered early during a weekday, it is so when one has a case of insomnia. Or has spent five hours playing video games the night before until past midnight because their insomnia leads them bored and with nothing to do during the night time. And this was Phillip's problem.

Naturally, this was his mother's problem as well.

The door Phillip's bedroom filled with foam-covered walls opened with a soft creak.

"Phillip?" Carol, Phillip's mother called out.

The lump of comforters shuffled at the noise, a soft groan emitting from underneath. Carol sighed and opened the door wide. She walked over to the bed and pulled the comforters off, revealing a brunet with the messiest curls covering his face. Said brunet let put another groan and buried his face deep in his pillow.

"Wake up, dear boy!"

Silence.

Carol exhaled through her nose and put her hands on her hips with an exasperated frown. "Fine." She walked over to the dark curtains and opened them with a sharp snap. The bright morning sun shrouded the room immediately. The sleeping boy squawked as the light momentarily blinded his tired eyes.
