first of all, what is sin? no, we're not talking about sin, the trigonometry ratio, we're talking about sin, the problem of humans going against God's will.
Sin is in everyone; we're all born sinners, and we can't change that. but, we can change whether we choose to sin or not. one of the biggest issues within sin in christianity is shaming others for their sin. i was talking to my youth leader about this a couple of months ago, and she said you don't get to yell at someone for sinning - for adultery, murder, lies, getting drunk - for anything wrong.
why?
because we're all just as bad.
because Jesus said that all sins are the same. matthew 5:21-22 shows this, and also this topic up really well. verse 22 says '...and anyone who says, 'you fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.'
this means that lies are as bad as murder. that hate is as bad as adultery. that swearing is as bad as stealing.
no-one will ever be perfect. no-one will ever lead a sinless life. no-one has ever done that, apart from Jesus. so that gives him - and only him - the right to justify our wrongdoings. so when you see someone sinning, you can gently tell them they're doing something wrong, but don't punish them for it. leave that to Jesus.
we were all given free will. to obey God, or to go out on or own ways, which would lead to temptations, deceit, lies, foolery, mockery, and so many more things that God wants to protect us from.
so if people don't want to listen to you, then try praying instead. even if you think God's not listening to your prayers, don't worry, he is! he might not act on it immediately, but that's just because he has his own perfect timing. and since we're all sinners, when you pray for others, always pray for yourself too, and get others to do the same. pray that you can be a better person in obeying God's laws, and pray for forgiveness for your past sins.
