The blonds both sat on a rooftop. The yellow blond sitting on the rail as the strawberry blonde pulled against it while squatting to the ground.

"What's your deal with [Name]?" asked Denji out of the blue, cutting off their still silence.

The Fiend shot their head up at her partner, surprised by his sudden means of talking. "Huh?! You mean Mute?"

"Mute? No! I mean [Name]. The person that Miss Makima wanted to talk to," restated Denji.

"Ah, yes. I know [Name], though the name Mute fits much better. They are quiet and boring. Back at the building, I'd be tortured by their stubbornness to speak."

"[Name] can talk. Plus, I think they're cool."

"You humans really are such a nuisance. You find likeness in the worst of people." Power looked away from Denji, a childish pouty expression playing on her face to display her exaggerated disagreement.

"What makes you hate them so much?" inquired Denji.

Power brought her gaze back up to the boy, her red and yellow eyes showing a glint of overdramatic anger as she sorted through her memories while ranting what came to mind. "Back at the building, I and Mute would stay there all day. It was so boring so I persisted that we had fun but they either stayed in a section of the building I was prohibited to enter, or they would be silent and ignore me. That lowish being wouldn't acknowledge my presence even if I screamed at them until nightfall. It was until they moved out and went with that other Devil Hunter that I was only able to find joy in scaring other people who roamed the building. I, however, got quickly found out and so I was ordered to stop, alas humans always ruin fun."

Denji didn't think much of Power's opinion of [Name], he thought they were cool and unexpectedly cute. However, he thought about why they'd be stuck at HQ. Possibly they were an orphan and had nowhere to stay. Or maybe they became homeless and had to search for a job and landed with Devil Hunting. Plus, what was the prohibited side of the building all about? Maybe it was a secret part of the building only human Devil Hunters can go to so Power couldn't follow them there?

The boys questioning stopped as he looked down at his partner. The Blood Fiend swiftly got up. She sniffed the air before gasping hysterically. "I smell blood!"

Aki left the room leaving only [Name] and Makima left in the office. The two stared intensely at each other shortly. Makima simpered at the unjoyful frown on their subordinate.

"What do you want to tell me Makima?" said [Name] with a hidden bitter tone.

"I wanted to tell you more about my plans for Aki's division. I know that adding Power and Denji to the group is crowding it but if you would like I can add you too."

"No," said [Name] strongly.

The woman's eyes widened, shocked by the abrupt answer. "Are you sure? Don't be stubborn if that is what you are doing."

"I'm not. I'm not joining. I work alone. Pushing me into doing something will just make me not want to do it even more." [Name] crossed their arms in frustration as they kept eye contact with Makima.

Makima sighed in disappointment as she closed her eyes and thought. Shortly after she brought her sight back to [Name] as she spoke once more in hopes of convincing them to change their mind. "You can be so juvenile sometimes. You and Aki can work great together. He has trained you well. I'm sure the higher-ups would start getting suspi-"

"I'm not joining his division."

Makima forced a smile. She couldn't do anything. A threat like that was no longer child's play. So, all Makima could do was let [Name] go as she sent them out to patrol an area.
