"Knock, Knock." Amber pops her head of short black hair into my office around 11:58.
After that terrible meeting in the morning, I got called into his office an hour later. This time, he didn't even look my way, instead he threw some files at me and told me to go through each paper and make a report for them by the end of the day.
Each piece of paper is filled with notes of previous meetings from the last few months. My job is to go through each one in the files and get familiarized with them. Then make a report for each meeting. At the end of the day, if I'm not done with all the reports, I'm going to have to stay later.
So currently, my desk is disorganized with all different types of papers. The finished files are on the tile floor and the unfinished files lay in a stack on my desk. I have to go through the file and find the papers that all correspond with the same meeting, then I have to write up the report. As of right now, I have a file open and I'm going through it. Whoever wrote these notes should be fired, it's not even legible, making me have to take extra time deciphering the notes.
Throwing a quick glance towards Amber, "Hey, it's not a good time. I have to get so much done by the end of the day." Going back to the papers littering my desk, I pick one up and wave it in the air. " It's taking me even longer to get these reports done because this person didn't pay attention in first grade during writing class." I let out an angry huff.
"Girl, you need to take a breather. Ronnie does this with every assistant on the first day. He wants to see if they can handle a boat load of stress and work. As you can see, he's more of an all in type of guy."
Falling back into my comfy chair "You think I didn't get that already?"
Giggling, Amber comes into my office and sits on the white couch across from my desk. Taking her five inch heels off, she props her feet up on the coffee table in front of her.
My office looks like a smaller version of Mr. Prouds office but without the book shelves.
My desk faces the glass back wall, just like his. I have a view of all the smaller buildings being illuminated by the bright sun. The bustling streets around us allow me to hear the traffic going at full force at eleven in the morning.
My right wall is taken up by my desk and shelves behind it. There's a few chairs in front of my desk too. The right wall has dark blue paint to contrast with the white walls around me. Then against the left wall, there's a couch with a coffee table. Two side tables stand on each end of the couch. The couch is white too. Almost everything in the office has monocratic, boring colors. I have to brighten it up with colors, pictures and books. The one decoration I have up is a small picture of my family placed behind me on the shelf.
"Okay, fine. I'll give you," looking down at her watch, "two minutes. Then we're off to lunch. I have a few people you should meet."
"Amber really, I don't think I can come to lunch today. I need to finish this or I'll be here till closing."
"Zara, you have a minute now." Sighing, I close my computer carefully, making sure everything is saved.
I leave everything as it is and look towards Amber, "Fine. Let's go."
"Yay, it's going to be fun. You'll get to meet people from this floor. You're going to love them." Linking her arm in mine, she basically drags me out of my office.
Pressing floor 102 in the elevator, we go to the cafeteria. In less than two minutes, we stepped into the most impressive lunch room I have ever seen. Even after seeing the lunch room at MIT, Xenon INC has a damn good lunch room.
