I miss my intern days.

During those good old days, we'd tour the different floors all day. From the janitor floors to top executives floors. For some reason we never got to tour the CEO's floor. It was known as the forbidden level for every intern. You don't go up there without a direct invitation from the CEO's assistant or an important reason.

My favorite floor was HR, human resources. Here, people actually interacted with the everyday clients of the company. These talented people were fascinating to watch. They can talk down the angry client and make them laugh in seconds. The employees on the human resources level are the easiest people to be around. They're not snobby or entitled, they're down to earth and funny.

Not only people but the floor plan of this level is different when compared to every other level of this building. The floor is very open and relaxed. The break room is encased in a glass room in the middle of the floor. Desks are in random order, where tons of people decorated them into their own little offices. But the main thing that's so attractive about HR, is that there is no real dress code. Most people are in casual clothes, like jeans and t-shirts. While others are dressed in fancier clothes. People are allowed to wear anything that makes them comfortable. I can't say this style of dressing is permitted on the other floors of this company. The whole floor had a great vibe, a vibe which immediately makes you calm. If I had the choice of choosing where I wanted to work in the company, it would be HR, no doubt.

On the days when we aren't touring different levels of Xenon INC, our mentors showed us the more technical side of the company. They would show us how to input information in the computers. As the count of interns went down, they helped us set up accounts for us, so Layla, Joshua and me are all officially employees of the company. We also worked alongside some of the employees. We shadowed them for a few days to see what their day to day work life is like.

But no, the glory days are over.

My intern days are done.

I didn't get a job with HR. The one job I prayed to get. Instead I got stuck with the most notorious, entitled executive of them all, Ronnie Wachler. A man with many issues.

After handing in the files, he took a quick glance at them. The only indication of whether I did it right or wrong was the twitch of his lips. I gladly took that as a good sign. He then looked over at me and told me I could leave for the day.

I waited for Amber to finish packing up and together we both rode the elevator. On the way down to the main floor, Amber questioned me about my day and how everything went. I told her about the last four stressful hours. And when I got to the part about Ronni's lips twitching, she seemed so shocked. Supposedly, at the end of every assistant's first day, he goes off on them because of the quality of their work. Amber smiled at me and said, " I told you. You are different." For a few more minutes we talked, then when we got to the main lobby, she went towards the main level parking garage and I walked over to the front doors.

Now, here I am, thinking about my day. Today was all types of bad and stressful but maybe all the days won't be this terrible. Who am I kidding, it's all going to be this bad.

Walking out of those double sliding doors almost feels as good as walking through them. From cool, quiet air, I walk right into blistering hot, noisy air. All around people speed walk to get to their final destination. Many are on the phones talking while fighting their way through the crowd waiting to cross the busy road. The roads are full to their capacity with cars. The noise level starts to excite my system. The city is starting to awaken.
