"Aren't we too young to be on this boat all by ourselves?" Cici asked.
Cici, Maggie, Blue, Holi and Cam stood on the deck of their parents' repurposed houseboat. The boat, once used for whale-watching, held some sentimental value for their parents, and now it served as a rental property. With their parents away for the year, the group of friends had taken on the responsibility of managing the boat.
"The five of us have superpowers, Cici. I think we all know we'll be fine!" Snapped Cam sassily.
"Bzzzt" Cici made a zap sound and giggled at the way Cam jumped.
"I swear if you try any of your weird zappy power stuff, I will push you off the side of this stupid boat," Cam said.
"You guys are so annoying!" Maggie said rolling her eyes
"Stop getting involved in stuff that doesn't concern you."
"By the way, where's Holi?" Said Blue, jumping in to stop them arguing.
"She said she's baking cookies..." Replied Maggie.
"Mmmm, these are good! I wonder if there's more..." Cam looked up, startled, as a slightly familiar voice came through the door. She felt like she should know who he is... like someone had taken the memory. She frowned, trying to remember.
"He's here!" Blue squealed, jolting Cam out of her trance.
"Who's here?" She said confused and a little bit scared
"Ci! Quick! Zap her!"
Cici started smirking and took a step towards Cam, a sparkle in her eyes. "Sorry Cam, but Maggie said.. and it's for your own good..."
"Cici, get away from me!" Cam took a step back, scared by the mischievous glint in her friend's eyes. With a deep breath, Cici unleashed a surge of electricity towards Cam. The bolts of energy crackled and sizzled as they struck her body, causing her to convulse and collapse to the ground. The room filled with the acrid scent of burnt air, and a deafening silence followed the display of power.
As the group gathered around Cam, the gravity of the situation weighed heavily on their minds. Cici, still recovering from the exhausting display of power she had had to use to take down a teen girl, broke the silence.
"Honestly, I've always wanted to do that," Cici admitted her voice thick with smugness that quickly gave way to a sense of urgency. "But back to the topic. Why's Addy here?" Her eyes widened in shock as she contemplated the potential dangers that Addy's presence posed.
"He could kill her, or worse, take her back! She's only 13!" Maggie's voice trembled, realizing how vulnerable Cam was.
The group went silent, contemplating their next actions. They were aware of the potential harm Addy could inflict upon them all. They couldn't do anything to him if he didn't show any signs of aggression, but the thought of him taking Cam sent shivers down all of their spines.
"We can't let him harm her," Holi insisted, her voice filled with determination. "We have to protect her, no matter the cost."
Everyone's heads whipped around as Addy slid open the door to the deck. "Hey, does anyone have any more cookies? I found them on the-" He looked down at the floor
"HEY!! WHO HERE ATE MY COOKIES" Holi barged out, screaming angrily. The whole deck went silent as Holi's eyes settled on Addy.
"What? Why are you staring at me?"
"When did he get here...?!"The room was still silent as Holi took in the situation. "And why is Cam lying on the floor dead?!"
Cam lay on the floor, half-conscious after getting zapped. In that fuzzy state between awake and asleep, a dream-like vision took over. A misty scene unfolded, and shapes moved around mysteriously. Then, out of nowhere, Addy appeared. He was all blurry, like in she was seeing him through a fog. His voice came through, calm but urgent.
"Cam... Remember..." Addy's words echoed in the mist.
Cam struggled to understand who he was and what he was saying. She reached out, desperately trying to hold on to the fragments of memory that were out of reach. Images flashed before her eyes—a face she couldn't quite see clearly, laughter shared, moments of connection. But the truth stayed out of her grasp.
Addy grew distant, fading away. "Don't forget... the truth..." his voice trailed off, disappearing into the mist.
Cam's heart raced, a mixture of longing and confusion swirling inside her. She needed to know more, to listen to him. But as the dream dissolved, the answers slipped away, leaving her with a lingering sense of unease. With a jolt, Cam blinked her eyes open, reality crashing back in. She darted her eyes around and settled them on Cici
"What?!? Is this a staring contest or something?" Cici said, confused.
"YOU!!" Said Cam angrily
"Me?"
"YES, you!!!" Cam replied, annoyed "You zapped me!"
"Am I the only one who feels a little left out, here?" Maggie groaned, annoyed by the girls' constant arguing. All eyes were on Cam now, seeing how she would react.
"YOU!!!" Cam jumped up and tried to push Maggie off the boat in anger. Cici followed, happy for a reason to fight.
"Umm, Blue a little help?" Holi said, speeding over to try and break them up.
"I was just gonna ask for more cookies," Addy said, backing towards the deck door.
"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT LEAVING, COOKIE THIEF!"
Everyone paused as Brooke, Bullet and Ben slid open the glass door and walked in.
"What are you mutants doing here?" Brooke said, in her normal bantering way.
It took them a minute to take in the situation. Cam trying to push Maggie off, Cici grabbing Cam's hair, Blue trying to break them apart and Holi was holding on to Addy's shirt. Brooke looked at Cici who let go of Cam's hair, a weird feeling, like a jolt of electricity passed through her. It felt weird and lingered for a second but she shook it off.
"Not you guys again," Cici said, rolling her eyes. She silently wondered if Brooke had felt that feeling as well.
" Wait, hold on a second. Is that... Addy?" Bullet whispered, confused.
"What is going on here?" Ben asked, shocked at the scene before him. Everyone looked around at each other, silent and frazzled. "I asked a question." sighed Ben, annoyed.
"What do you think? A picnic?!" Everyone yelled sarcastically.
Brooke rolled her eyes and muttered, "Here we go again..."
Cici drained from her earlier use of powers on Cam, collapsed to the ground, her body trembling uncontrollably. Panic surged through the group as they watched their friend crumple, and Brooke, driven by instinct, rushed to Cici's side.
Time seemed to stand still as Brooke knelt beside Cici, and put a hand on her forehead, using her powers to sense what was wrong with her. Concern etched across her face, she called out, "We need to get her to the infirmary immediately!"
And with that heart-stopping moment, Chapter 1 came to a close, leaving the readers breathless, desperate to know the fate of Cici and the unfolding dangers that awaited the group on their extraordinary journey. No, but seriously guys, I know there are a lot of plot holes, but this is only chapter one and there's going to be a lot more coming. Also, the concept is made when I was 11... so the next chapters will be betterr.
