"The nurse explained that you need surgar," Jamie explained, placing a plain muffin in front of my clenched hand on the table. The hard expression on his face suggested that I shouldn't protest to the gesture.

This Starbucks, unlike the last one we were both at, wasn't sharing with a library. It looked like it held more income than the last one - is was sleek and modern... It was hard to fing a building in Atlanta that wasn't modern. The theme in the interior of the confined coffe shop was a dark charcoal brown along with a creamy white for the chandeliers and chairs. We sat in the corner, the furthest away from the counter, sitting across each other. When we first got here, Jamie made me sit down while he ordered me a muffin and a cup of coffee - nothing for him... It... It was quite amusing to see the expression of the female bartender when She faced him. I really couldn't help but to snicker.

You could basically see the pheromones.

The aroma of ground coffee beans usually helped to keep me soothed - but staring into Jamie's dark Navy eyes kept me agitated and nervous under this strange man's heated gaze.

My ribs throbbed for a a short second, but my hand flinched down towards it intinctually. His eyes followed my hand. "How did this happen?" I questioned him, gesturing to my left shoulder, rib and head.

He smiled a half smile indulgently at me. "When I caught you after you fainted-"

"Wait," I stopped him, throwing the hand that was against my ribs to face him, palm towards his face. He sighed a quick sigh of amusement, resting his strong jaw against the palm of his left hand, allowing his fingers to rub his mouth. Jamie's eyebrow quirked up as I continued. "You managed to catch me?" I mused out loud, raising my eyebrows in disbelief.

He grew uncomfortable as I finished. "Well... I lied to you when I explained why I wanted to walk you home. It was quiet evident on you're face that you were weak - I wanted to make sure that you would have been alright." Jamie answered me softly, looking down to the right of me. I adjusted my oxygen mask as he spoke. "I was honestly waiting for something to happen. But when I caught you, I only had you by the waist - so your head hit the concrete. When you fell, you're oxygen line fell over - hitting your shoulder. I didn't know that you're rib was hurt until the nurse gave be a rebuff of you're injuries." I watched with unirattional curiosity as the beautiful blue in his eyes rolled in annoyment.

I guess he didn't like that woman either.

My nose wrinkled as I thought of the simple nurse I met at the hospital that kept on telling me what I already knew at the time.

His eyes narrowed at me as his expression was crossed with abrupt anger. "What were you doing? If you felt bad, then why were you roaming the streets? Anyone could have taken advantage of you." He explained. It didn't take me long to understand what he was saying.

Well, might as well speak the truth.

I gulped. You have a death wish huh, McAllister? "To be truthfull...," I started, looking down at the table as I played with a dark brown lock of my hair that just reached above my breasts. "After I got home from school, I got sick." I took a sneak peek at his eyes. His eyes looked like there was charcoal smoldering behind his eyes. Big mistake. Back track time. "I j-Just wanted a fresh breath of air - I didn't think that I was still... Not... Fine." What kind of sentence was that?

"You knew you were sick but yet you still went outside?" Jamie asked me, his deep but smooth voice was threatening. He gritted his teeth at me, annoyed for the millionth time today.

I must really get under this man's skin.

Unable to controll it, an involuntary cough-laugh spluttered through my lips. His eyebrow raised again, but this time he wasn't as amused.

"And anyways, I really wanted to explore Atlanta..." I murmmered quietly.

"Dammit, are you five?" Jamie accused me angrily, raking a hand through his overgrown hair in exasperation. I hated the way he made me feel so inferior to him.

I didn't answer him as I stared down at the ground. I found it odd that he would be angry at me for a mistake I committed before we even met.

People continued to noisily stream through the doors of the Starbucks, animated in their conversations while Jamie and I talked with hushed voices. He gracefully sank backwards in his chair. It didn't occur to me in till then that he was landing towards me against the table. His left arm draped over the back of the chair, at ease with himself, and he sighed as he looked out of the window unto the dreary Wednesday afternoon.

Without turning his head towards me, his deep blue eyes darted towards me, wary. "So I was right when I lied to you about the reason for me walking you home?" A half-smile crossed his perfect lips... He looked beautiful. Strands of black fell in his eyes as he laughed. "Here I am, finding out everything about you all on my own, and you can't seem to figure me out!" He purred softly, his tone dark - as if he was hiding something.

Jamie's smile brough some of my confidence back - I smiled shyly at him as I slowly gained my equilibrium.

His eyes narrowed. "Then why did it look like you didn't really feel comfortable..." He turned his head towards me, tilting it to the right. I dint exactly know how to correctly explain it in till he glanced at my oxygen tank. Jamie concealed any expression that tempted to cross his face - he didn't give anything away.

My silence confirmed his thoughts. "Why would you move to a city that you don't like?" He asked me simply, his expression was still a poker face.

"I lived in Jacksonville," I started, watching as immediate reconization ruined his deadpan face. "The humidity it high - .85 pounds of water vapor in every square inch. Here it's only .09 pounds. Enough of a difference to be deadly or life-saving." I continued, internally angry at myself for spilling my guts to this somewhat stranger.

"You're only a senior in high school - why are you here alone?" I looked at him questionably - he probably already knew why.

I felt guilty as I explained. "My mother, Evelyn, and my little sister Carlie are still in Jacksonville selling our property," Pain flashed across my face. "I had to leave - the hospital trips were getting more abd more frequent..."

Jamie's Navy eyes softened at me.... Not in pity but more like... Reverence?

That was exactly the moment when I realized that a black-haired woman - an extremely sexy and beautiful Black-haired woman - came walking up towards us with a confident gleam in her big green eyes. That was when I noted that she wasn't walking towards us; she was walking towards Jamie.

O.O Huh?

Crap. I whined inwardly as I terrored the thought that this might get really akward as I stared into her possessive eyes that were locked determinedly onto Jamie.

What is she to him?
