I was stood at the front of the class yawning and scratching the back of my neck. It was the day of the English presentation on Taming of the Shrew which I’d completely forgotten about until last night. Cayden called and I realised that I had yet to finish my part of the assignment so I spent the whole night doing that and only getting six hours of sleep.
I yawned again and Cayden turned to face me at a little pause. He was presenting his part since I’d already had. He smiled at me and I did too which was probably the highlight of the day since rain was coming down in sheets. Rain drops hit the window and slid down the path of a previous rain drop. I could see people with their umbrellas up and sheltering under their jackets from the rain. Weather like this was very rare. It was mostly sunny or at least just cloudy at times but the sun would always show up sometime in the day, however, today the sun stayed hidden.
“Miss Lovely,” I snapped back to the mention of my name and found that Cayden has already sat down. Was it over?
“Thank you but you may take your seat now,” said Mr. Fitz rather impatiently and gestured to my seat. I hastily took it and nearly stood on someone’s toe. I sat and stared out the window as Mr. Fitz called out people’s names but I was miles away thinking about who Asher and Nate were. Darcy said she’d show me at lunch which was after this lesson. I couldn’t help but feel frustrated. I didn’t want this stupid list but it’s my only way to go to Senior Prom without being dateless. I looked over at Cayden and wondered if he’d asked anyone or if someone has asked him. And if so, did he say yes to the offer? I groaned and sat back but thankfully the bell rang and I was whisked away by Darcy.
“Okay, Nate is a boxer,” Darcy whispered furtively into my ear.
“Yeah, you told me,” I roll my eyes and pull my arm out of her grasp.
“Good, he’ll be leaving the gym soon.” Darcy again grabbed my arm and took me across the cafeteria to the other exit doors. I heard my stomach rumble and sighed. I was missing lunch to see some sweaty boxer dude? This better be worth it.
We stood outside of the gym and the door swung open. Out poured tall, built up boys with towels around their necks, their skin shining with sweat and their hair sticking to their foreheads.
Okay, they were quite hot being fit and healthy an all but I still don’t think it’s worth missing my lunch.
“Darcy!” said a deep voice and a tall, blonde haired guy appeared and pulled Darcy into a hug. I stood there awkwardly biting my lip. I noticed his muscular arms and bright smile – in other words, he’s totally worth missing my lunch. I really hope this is Nate.
“Nate, meet my friend Grace, and Grace, this is my friend Nate.” Darcy says and gestures to me. I wave feebly and lean against the wall. Nate’s lip curl into another smile and offers his hand.
