10. Treatment

Lisa's POV

It's been three weeks since that horrible night, and now it's finally time to start chemo. I'm doing this for my newfound family and friends, and of course Amber. I look at Niall sitting next to me on the bed. My hand is in his, and he is rubbing it softly with his fingers. "I am here for you just like I promised." he says to me. Amber is sitting on the chair next to the bed. Her face is hidden in her hands. She feels like she forced me into this, but she didn't. A burning sensation fills my arm as the needle is inserted into my skin. I am so scared. I read up on all the side effects, and the worst one is the hair loss. In some cases people don't lose their hair, but I'm not going to be one of the lucky ones. I look at the red fluid flowing into my body. I'm getting weaker by the day. I look at Niall, and see the worry on his face. He flew in from Ireland with me. He took me there to meet his parents, cousins, uncles and his brother. I even met Theo. I made Niall promise not to tell them about the cancer, and he kept it, but I can see it is bothering him. "I'll be okay." I say to him. "No, you're not going to be okay. We're losing you. You can't just pretend that you're not dying, because you are!" Amber yells and storms out of the room.

Niall lets go of my hand to go after her. "Don't go. She needs time on her own, and I need you." I say to him. He gets back on the bed, but this time he lays down next to me so that we are facing each other. "I need you to make me a promise." I say to him. "What promise?" he asks me. I stare into his eyes. They have this shine in them which is a indication of a flood coming. "Stop feeling sorry for me. My fate is sealed and I made peace, but you still have to." I say to him. "I did make peace." he says "No, you didn't. I can see it in your eyes." I say to him. "I just hate seeing you like this. In three weeks you became such a big part of my life. I'm just not ready to lose you." he says. A lonely tear creeps over his cheek. I lift up my hand and I wipe it away. "Don't cry again. I love you a lot cousin, and no matter where I am and how I'm feeling I know that you are with me." I say to him. I take his hand in mine, and smile at him. I notice the nurse giving me a strange look. We talk for a few minutes, and then Niall falls asleep. In the last three weeks this bottle blonde boy crept into my heart. I couldn't have asked for a better cousin.

"Lisa." a soft voice says from the door. Amber is back. She sits down on the chair next to Niall. "I'm sorry about earlier. The pressure is just getting to me." she whispers. I can see that she's been crying. "It's okay. I understand." I assure her. The hours fly by. For the rest of the 4 hours I talk to Amber about Ireland, my family and my feelings. Niall wakes up and joins in the conversation. I know they are just trying to distract me from the chemo, and it's working. I'm going to stay here in Hawaii until I'm too weak. Then I'm going back to Ireland to stay there with Niall. That's the arrangement I made with Niall and Amber. There is a soft knock on the door. It's Danny and Steve. "We are sorry to disturb, but we wanted to give you guys something. You left before we had the chance." Steve says. Niall isn't on the bed anymore. He is sitting on the chair next to Amber. "You guys crept into our hearts, and we just wanted to give you a small gift to show you that we are thinking about all of you." Danny adds. I notice the box in his hands. He places it on the bed and opens the lid.

He hands each of us a gold bracelet with a mini badge on it. Niall's look different than ours. "Thank you so much. It is lovely." I say to them. "If you need anything you have our number. You can call us night and day. Even if you just need an ear to listen." Steve says. "I will remember that." I say to them. Danny picks up the box and gives it to Niall. "Please give the rest of the guys theirs." he says. "I will. Thank you." Niall says. "We have a case to solve. We'll pop in with you now and then to see how you're doing." Steve says. He walks towards me, and gives me a hug. "Stay strong." he softly says in my ear. "Goodbye guys. Stay safe." Danny says, and then they leave the room. I hold the bracelet in my hand and admire the detail. "You can go now." the nurse says. She carefully removes the needle from my arm. "You will feel very weak now. You can use one of the wheelchairs to go to the car if you want to." the nurse says. "I'll be okay." I say to her. I swing my legs off the side of the bed and stand up. My legs feel very wobbly. I start walking towards Niall. My legs feel like they're going to give in under me. "I'll take the wheelchair." I say and sit down on the bed again. The nurse smiles and gets the wheelchair waiting in the hallway. Amber pushes the wheelchair back to the car. Niall hops along behind us on his crutches. His knee is doing much better now.
