3. Family

"Kids, this is Violette. She is a new addition to our family," Carlisle said.

I had a feeling that they all knew already. None of their expressions changed from when I walked into the room. There were five of them scattered around the room. They all looked completely different in their features, but very alike in beauty and otherworldliness.

"So, are you all really related?" I asked curiously.

They all laughed softly and I was glad that I could break the ice a bit.

"No, Vi," one of the girls said to me with a smile. She had dark, pixie cut hair and honey colored eyes like everyone else. She was the shortest of us all, which was saying a lot since I stood at only five feet four inches tall. She had been sitting on the couch nearest to me next to a tall blonde guy. "Carlisle and Esme are our 'adoptive' parents. We were all found separately, except for Jasper and I. We found them and we were already together."

I looked over at the blonde and he smiled politely at me. He seemed to be more of the quiet one of the group, but in a good way like we could be good friends.

"Are you two a couple?" I asked, bringing my attention back to the tiny, smiling vampire. I wondered what her name was. I was about to ask when she spoke.

"Alice Cullen," she said answering my unasked question. "And yes. Jasper and I are a couple as well as Emmet and Rosalie," she said, gesturing over to the other couple. Rosalie was perched on the armrest of the other couch next to Emmet. She was perfect in every way. Her long blonde hair was perfectly straight and her honey eyes were framed beautifully with naturally long eyelashes. Her lips were perfectly full and there was no sign of a flaw anywhere on her face. She had a smile on her face that was a mixture of forced and genuine. How she did that, I had no idea. Emmet, on the other hand, had a huge, genuine smile on his face. He was built like a football player and had a mess of chocolate brown curls on his head. He had a constant twinkle of mischief in his honey eyes and a complexion that suggested that he liked being in the sun every now and then as a human. He was now standing and walking towards me. Within half of a second, he picked me up and enveloped me in a hug.

"Welcome to the family, little one! It's been a while since we've had a new sibling," he said, his voice louder than necessary.

"Um, thank you, Emmet," I said, laughing uncomfortably. I didn't think that I would receive this much love this fast.

"Emmet, be careful. She's stronger than you right now. She could easily break you," I heard another male voice say. It sounded further than the other laughing voices around me.

"I find that hard to believe," I said as Emmet put me down.

"Edward's right," Carlisle said, amusement in his tone. He touched my shoulder softly and I turned slightly towards him. "Right now, your human blood is still inside of your body. As a newborn vampire, your strength comes from that blood as well as feeding."

I tried taking in that idea and glanced over at Edward.

I'd seen my fair share of gorgeous men, vampire and not, but when I looked at Edward, I couldn't help but melt. He had crazy copper colored hair and it looked so soft that it made me want to run my hands through it. His lips were the perfect plumpness and his features were perfectly chiseled. He was smaller in build than Emmet and Jasper, but it was the perfect amount of muscle. His fingers were long and if I were human, I would have blushed at the thought of what those fingers could do. His eyes were a slightly darker shade of honey than everyone else's and I figured that he had fed a little less than everyone else.

"Hi," I said softly. I was nervous all of a sudden, which I was sure was a strange feeling for vampires.

A small half smile decorated Edward's lips and he walked towards me. I didn't know what to do, so I took a small step back. He chuckled and held out his hand in an invitation for my own. When I offered it, he took my hand and kissed the top gently.

"Edward Cullen. It is a pleasure to meet you, Violette," he said. "I must finish hunting, but I will want to speak with you a bit later."

With a wink, he was gone.

"Edward," Alice sighed with a shake of her head. "I'm sorry. He has a tendency to dazzle people without even knowing that he's doing it. I swear he was just being polite."

I nodded, a giggle escaping my lips.

Everyone laughed.

"Well, I'm sure that you would like to see where you will be living," Carlisle said. "Alice, would you take her on a tour of our home?"

"I would love to," she said with a smile in my direction. "Jasper can find something to do, I'm sure."

She winked in his direction and he laughed, winking back. A moment later, he was gone. I looked around to thank everyone for being so nice to me, but they had all left, too.

"Will I ever get used to that," I asked Alice.

"Eventually," she replied with a giggle. "But once you do, you'll be so annoyed with how slow humans move."

I laughed a bit and shook my head.

"Okay, I guess we'll start from the garage and then end at your room," Alice said. "And then we'll go shopping for a new wardrobe for you."

"What's wrong with my wardrobe?" I asked, a bit offended.

"It doesn't exist anymore. It's in Seattle, don't you remember? Plus, I'm sure your family will notice if their deceased loved one is missing clothes."

I nodded and with that, I grew sad.

"My poor mother," I said softly. My throat felt tight all of a sudden and I waited for the tears. When they didn't come, I looked at Alice in a slight panic.

"There's a lot you need to learn about what you are now. I will help you and I can't guarantee that it will be easy. All I can guarantee is that everything will get better," she said, stroking my back softly, comforting me.

"Do you promise?" I asked in a whisper, everything beginning to hit me.

"I promise."
