20.The awkwardness

Samy's POV:

I don't know how much of our conversation Anurag heard. But I am sure he heard what Saira said about Maya for sure. He was angry and I was also not happy because of the words she used intending my Maya.

He came inside the room and closed the door a little bit such that our voice would not be heard by the people downstairs.

"What are you saying just now? I am not sure what right you have to say those words but I am not going to let anyone trash talk about my best friend in my home." Anurag said while glaring at Saira.

Saira was shocked by the turn of events and immediately turned towards me as if asking me to help her. She knows pretty well I have issues with Anurag and she wants to use that to defend her statement.

"Don't look at me. I am also not happy with the words you used to describe her." I said which made her frightened. She can't compete with two men and she is smart enough to understand that.

"I am sorry. I am not saying anything about her. I am just thinking things out loud. I don't have any bad intentions about anyone." She blabbered and without waiting for our reply she ran outside the room.

Anurag didn't leave the room and he turned to look at me. I got up from the bed and looked straight at him.

"I didn't know what happened between you guys. I was pretty shocked when Shrestha told me about your engagement with Saira," Anurag said looking at me as if he needed some explanation.

"Things happened. I was trying to save her." I replied making sure not to reveal too much in the process.

"I expected. Maya doesn't know the reason behind all of this right?" He asked and I just shook my head stating no as an answer. But he didn't press on the said reason or ask me for a more detailed explanation.

"And you are not going to tell her the real reason?" He asked and I shook my head again as an answer.

He didn't say anything and turned to leave the room. When he reached the door he stopped and without looking back he said " You are going to regret it if you keep this secret with you. You know very well what Maya is capable of."

I didn't react to that and he is right. If Maya is determined to do something she will not hesitate or think about anyone before doing that.

"And I have to tell you this. My feelings for her remain the same and I am not going to back out if she comes to me. I will be whatever she wants me to be. Be it a friend or something more than that." He said and without waiting for my reply he left the room.

I was shocked to move from there. I know that he loves her. We were best friends for so many years and when things got complicated with him loving Maya he left us. Maya was in love with me by then and even though I didn't propose to her at that time she knew that I was interested in her.

She rejected him but maintained our friendship intact. But as soon as we became a couple, things got pretty bad. There came a situation when she had to select one of us and as expected she chose me. But what I am afraid of is that if a similar situation arises this time I will not be her choice for sure.

I went downstairs and found only Anurag there. No one else was visible and I had to go near Anurag as there was no other option.

"They were at the restaurant waiting for us. I told them to leave as they had been waiting for so long. " He said and went outside the house locking the door as soon as I was outside.

He went and got on a bike. He started the bike but didn't go until I hopped on the same bike. Even though things are a little weird between us we still had this sense of compatibility. And I liked that we don't need any formalities or words to convey our feelings. In one weird way, I too missed our friendship but I can't blame anyone for the things that happened back then.
