- You're finally home, have you two completely forgotten about when you need to come home ?
- Hello to you too Amy, Gabby said with a condescending tone.
- Gabby, my beloved, where is my sunshine? Mama asked, changing the TV channel to another, lighting a cigar and complaining that they weren't showing the news.
- He's probably out, said Gabby.I come in with Arnie's sweater around me, and his jar of grasshoppers in my hand, Mom reached out and patted me on the arm.
-How was work, for both? Amy asked.
- Good, but long... i told and went into the kitchen.
"Gabby"
- Well it was good, Arnie was with me when Gilbert had to work of, then he went back to Gilbert again. She told, i smiled. Wondered if Gabby actually would have maners to tell mama about Ellen. Maybe she will...
Distracted by my own thoughts, Amy stands on my right and pokes my arm with a spatula.
- Gilbert, are you just going to stand there, what's wrong? Has something happened.
Amy put one hand on my cheek, so warm and kind-hearted, there is no harm in her. But it is a little rat in the family that won't inherit those genes. And that rat just came through the door.- Ellen, it's good that you came, you'll get to go and throw away the rubbish, said Amy, patted me on the head and crouched down more to pick up the trash she had sorted into bags as she loaded Ellen with two bags and a large box to cary.
Amy turned to me, and handed over a hammer.
- Something is wrong over the roof, can you look at it. She asked.
I pitifully grabbed the hammer, left the lonely, boring but to say the least cluttered kitchen and went out the door to the back, where I could guess Arnie was.Through the exit at the back came a cold gust of wind that hit me in the face.
-Need help?
I turned around and saw my pal Tucker standing there.
- What are you doing here?
- Passed the roads, greeted my mother. You know she broke her leg a week ago, she needs help with things. He told me
- Oh, i see, Otherwise, considering that she has injured herself, how is Kajsa? I said standing on the ladder, Tucker willingly grabbed the ladder and looked up.
- She is fine, I told her about Burger Barn, she was... i guess she was proud. He told me as he managed to think of to things at the same time.
"You should bring Arnie," he said. That sentence echoed in my head.
- Tucker, you know how it goes, can't even blink before he disappears from me. I said and looked at him, he understood that himself too.
- I see, what's the problem? he said.
- Problem?
- Your roof dickhead, what's wrong with your roof? he asked.
- A hole,I said.He helped me, with the little that needed to be done.
The last nail I had in my hand I nailed up and threw the hammer at Tucker.
"NOOOO"
-what? He Said and dropped the ladder.
- What the hell was that, i said and looked at Tucker.
The voice came from one side of the house where Tucker and I reluctantly ran to look.
Once there, we find an Arnie on the ground, curled up in a ball, hands over his face.
"Oh No, No"
- Arnie?
He didn't react to me talking to him.
- I'm going, see you. Tucker said and started walking towards his car.
"Arnie"
He looked up, a tear falling down his cheek.
- What's wrong, I said and bent down in front of him.
I was afraid that he had hurt himself or that he had wet himself, I started to look carefully so that he wasn't bleeding anywhere or that he was wet down to the legs
He pointed to the ripe grass, and began to cry.
- My... my DUCK...
- What's wrong with your duck Buddy?
- It's gone?
I looked at him, he was really distressed.
I moved forward and sat next to him. I put my hand in his hair and smoothed it.
"Shhh"
- I want my duck gilbert... he said.
I asked him to stand up, he looked down on the ground, just like he did when he had trouble wetting the bed, or himself, the kind of a shame.
I took him by the hand and we started looking for his duck.
Without saying anything, we went around looking.10 minutes later and I finally found his duck in the hedge. He managed to drop it there and where over the moon when i told him what i found.
He had calmed down when he had to sit with mama, while the rest of us cooked.
She hugged him tight, and patten his head like a baby.

The evening passed and it became increasingly dark.
The TV, which is in the living room, was on with a TV program about the way clothes are produced, a way mama thought was interesting. Arnie on the sofa next to her, lying with one eye closed.
" duck... duck.. he lay muttering to himself.
I washed, Amy dried while Gabby ironed her work uniform.
- It's time for Arnie's bath soon! Amy said poking my arm.
- Yes, I know... I said and threw the wet towel at her face.
- Can I put him to bed today? asked Gabby?
- If he agrees, sure. I said glancing over at him.
- Bathing him is your jobb, I'll help with the rest. She said turning her gaze to her uniform.
" Go ahead"
