Icarus' Pov:

I open the door into the makeshift dressing room of the school we were performing in. It's 6:00, before our 7:30 show. My mom had just dropped me off before waiting to take her seat.

"Heya guys," I say, waving to my cast members as I put down my bag.

"Hey Rus," a few of them say in response.

"How are you doing, kid?" Joe, a close family friend, and the directors dad asks me while giving a tight hug.

"Much better after getting some sleep," I reply, unloading my show shoes and makeup out of my bag.

"I feel that," Mae, the directors girlfriend and another close friend of mine, says, laughing lightly.

I chat with the rest of the cast while we prepare hair, do makeup, and discuss last nights show.

Our director,Ben, walks in the middle of the conversation, waiting for us to finish.

"Anyone who doesn"t have a mic on, cough cough, Icarus, Cass, and Mae, please go do that so we can open the house," Ben says.

"Yea, yea, I'm going," Cass, our lead, replies. Mae and I add to her statement.

I take pull of my sweater, actually my girlfriends sweater she saw the show yesterday and then spent the night with me. As I do a gasp comes multiple people in the room. I shrug it off, assuming they've seen something on one of their phones.

"What is that?" Ben asks, standing in the exit of the room. I don't realize he's talking to me and continue getting my costumes, my back to him. "Icarus."

I freeze. He doesn't use my full name unless I'm in trouble. I rack my brain for something I could have done while I turn around to face him. "Yes?" I reply nervously.

"What is that?" Ben repeats, taking a step towards me. I see Mae and Cass move closer to me the same shocked expression as Ben on their faces.

"What is what?" I ask back, genuinely confused. Ben points in my general direction. I look down at myself, searching for something askew. "The sweater? It's my girlfriends, you gotta problem with that?"

"No, he's talking about that," Mae says, pushing my shaggy blonde hair off my neck. Still confused, I pull out my phone and open my camera. I point it at my neck, and immediately, my expression matched theirs.

There, on my lower neck, was a dark purple hickey. I move my hand over it and laugh nervously.

"Dammit, I told her not so far up," I mummble to myself.

"I'm sorry, what?!" Cass half shrieks. All three were on all sides of me and had clearly heard what I said. "The tea is steaming."

"So, out with it. What is that?" Mae says, hand on hip.

"What do you think it is?" I ask in a sarcastic voice, like I'm talking to a toddler.

"Don't take that tone with her," Ben says, defending his girlfriend.

"What's the big deal?" I ask genuinely. "It's just a hickey."

"Pardon, who has a hickey," Alex, another cast member, says, just entering the room. I groan in response. He sees me cornered by the three people and laughs.

"Save me," I say to Alex.

"Nah, you did that to yourself, kid," he replies. I sigh, annoyed.

"Sooooo," Cass probes. I duck between her and Ben, attempting to escape. Ben swiftly picks me up and holds me hostage, my feet dangling off the ground. For being 16, I am still small enough for this to work on me, like when I was a kid.

"Spill," he states.

"Let me gooooo," I whine, flailing my legs. Cass laughs, and I stick my tongue out at her.

"Not untill you tell us," he says, squeezing me tighter. I start to wheeze, wiggling to get out, pretending to have a hard time breathing.

"Babe, put him down," Mae says. "You're hurting him."

Ben releases me, and I take a big breath of air. "Hah! Tricked you, I'm fine," I chuckle.

"C'mon, Rus, just tell us," Cass says.

"What is there to tell you!" I say exasperated, throwing my arms in the air.

"Who?" Ben says, sounding like an angry owl.

"My girlfriend dipshit, who else?" I reply, raising my voice slightly.

"Aye laugage," Mae scolds. I playfully roll my eyes at her.

"Why?" Ben asks.

"Seriously? Why not? Don't act like we all don't see the ones you leave on her," I retort, pointing at Mae.

"Ooooooo, he got you," Cass says, through her laughs.

"Happy?" I ask sarcastically. From the look on my face, they can tell that they're not getting anything else out of me.

"Go get your mics on for sound check," Ben says, pushing me, Cass, and Mae towards the door. I laugh to myself, considering that a victory.

Three mics later me and my love interest of the show, who's the only other kid my age, are singing through our number.

"Nice," she says, pointing at my neck. I laugh.

"Ben sure didn't think so," I reply, still quietly giggling.

"He's one to talk," she says.

"That's what I said."

Later that night, after the show, I lay in my bed with Katie, my girlfriend. She's lying on my chest while we watch a movie. She starts to pepper little kisses on my neck.

"Next time you gotta stay low, Ben, Cass, and Mae and quite a fit about it today," I say quietly to her.

"But you look so good it purple," she replies. I blush and roll my eyes. We fall asleep shortly later tangled in each other's arms.
