Felix's POV
Darkness is all I saw. Pulses of red entered the darkness. I sat up and I was in the cell with Anna sitting over me and crying. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her down and I kissed her. The virus had exited her system. She's all mine. I looked over and saw a secret passage beside us. Anna helped me up and I walked into the secret passage. It was lit with torches. Maybe this was a way out of the academy. I went in front of Anna just in case there was something that could hurt her. The passage led to the outside wall of the academy. We were almost free. The gate was open for newcomers. I pulled Anna out and we ran toward the gate, which was starting to close. It was almost closed. We couldn't make it. I picked Anna up and threw her outside the gate. She was safe, I was not. I would probably be killed. She would forget me and move on with her life. The last thing I felt was a bullet going into my neck while I was looking at Anna, possibly for the last time.
Anna's POV
I saw Felix get shot. I screamed and yelled and banged on the gate to let me in. They opened the gate and I ran in. I took a bobby pin out of my hair and took the bullet out of his neck. It didn't hit anything, so he'd be ok. Guards came and grabbed me and pulled me away from Felix and dragged me to Mr. Mathews office. They threw me in and I hit the floor with a thud.
"Why hello Anna. What makes you come and visit me on this fine day?"
"Why do you want to know?" I snapped at him.
"I saw you and Felix try to escape out of love. But do you know what happens to love here?" I shook my head very quickly. "If we sense it, we destroy it. That's why we were trying to make you guys kill each other. But your love was too strong and it came through and the venom had no more effect on you since you overcame it."
"Why don't you want us to have love?!"
"Because Anna, your mother left me and took you with her."
"She never dated anyone after my father left."
"That's because I am your father Anna. She left me, and not the other way around. And I don't want you to go through the same, so you cannot love Felix unless you want to die."
"I would rather die and be with him than have you as a father."
"Well why do you think your last name is Mathews?"
"I thought he left and he died."
"No, I built this place for people like your mother to go and to make them feel guilty. That's why everyone calls you a fool. Everyone here falls in love once they come here and I destroy it. That's why everyone hates this place. I make the students suffer. I may seem like a mean math teacher, but I am the founder and headmaster, so everyone follows my commands. I didn't even feel bad when I gave you that nasty bruise on your jaw."
"Why?" was all I asked before walking out to find Felix. And if I didn't find him alive, my father was going to die, no matter what. I'll kill anyone that gets in my way to save Felix. Even if it means going to jail for life.
Felix's POV
I woke up in a metal chair. The bullet in my neck was gone and the wound was healed. Mr. Mathews came in with a devilish smile on his face.
"Hello fool, how's the chair? Nice and cold for you?"
"Where's Anna?"
"Is that seriously the first thing you're gonna say to me? Well if you must know, I told her I was her father, which is true, and she's trying to find you. But sadly that won't happen because I have guards everywhere, and if she gets close to here, they will kill her. And if you get out of here, they'll kill you as well unless you have an escort of me or one of the guards." He walked out, leaving a guard to come in with a tray of food and untying me from the chair. I rubbed my rope burned wrists and began to eat. It was slop, but it was food nonetheless. I hate the tasteless mush and drank the dirty water they gave me. It was gross but it was food and water and all I could ask for until Anna eventually got to me and we escaped.
