Running Away

I woke up to a high pitched scream. It was coming from upstairs...I think. It's probably all in my head, like everything else. I thought, trying hard to believe myself.  I close my eyes and clear my mind. The television was still on, making background noises while I try to focus on my breath. In...out...in...out...

I reach for my phone and I call the police. Remembering he told me to run to a closest friends house or a relative. I dial the number, my hands still shaking from that bloodcurdling scream. But before anyone picks up, I hang up. I will not tolerate this anymore. I've decided to leave. Leave this house, and find my Aunt. Maybe she knows where my parents are. It would take me forever to walk to her house, and I haven't had my drivers license just yet. I would, a) have to hitchhike, or b), search the whole house for money. My parents took their wallet- wherever they went, and I had no money left from buying my phone. I didn't have to look far to find some money, 4 twenty dollar bills sitting at the side of the kitchen table, hiding behind a pile of books in a corner. I snatch them up, and put them in my pocket. Before I head out the door, I write a note on a piece of paper, and put it on the kitchen counter.

"Mom and Dad, If you find this note please call me. I am worried sick about you. Where are you? I'm on my way to Aunt Lydia's house. I miss you."

Tears escape from my eyes, as my vision gets blurry. I grab everything I need, including my keys, and I walk out the door. Locking it behind me.
