To explain my AU a little better reasoning for her being in the Avatar program all of her life is because she was born on Pandora and not Earth. There's a system of adoption formed where if a child is born on Pandora without a family they can be put up for adoption on a website. When they get adopted they can go back to Earth when they're old enough to be able to go in cryo They get sent back to Earth to be with their family.
