Darius led Marigold through some alleys she had never been in before. He kept wrinkling his nose when he accidentally stepped into a dirty puddle in the dark, but the need to break the rules seemed to be more important to him than keeping his clothes clean, which Marigold took as a big hint that he meant business.

They took a huge detour and she was sure they had been walking for a full twenty minutes, but eventually they were right behind the library.

Marigold was really very surprised, because if she was not mistaken they had not met even a single scout.

She leaned forward curiously and asked quietly, "How did you do that?"

Darius raised a brow. "It's called walking, scatterbrain. You should be able to do that too, actually."

Marigold would have liked to groan out loud. "I mean the way you've been avoiding the scouts. You must know their plans pretty well for that, I think."

"Let's just say in preparation for this evening I've taken preparations. "He grinned wryly, which for some reason still looked elegant on him. That was a good word to describe Darius. He was very elegant.
It had never really struck Marigold before, but the way he spoke, walked and smiled looked extraordinarily elegant. Even his clothes were usually elegant. Right now, though, there were a few drops of mud stuck to his boots. But instead of looking down at them and wrinkling his nose, he smiled at Marigold.

And somehow that made her feel a little shy. She cleared her throat. "What do you mean by preparations?"

"Wouldn't you like to know what scatterbrain?" he said somewhat playfully.

She raised her eyebrows. "I wouldn't ask otherwise, would I?" But now she had to smile, too. And even though they were about to break into the library, it wasn't a nervous smile. It was one of those smiles that just found its way onto the face without Marigold really noticing. She didn't until it was there and she couldn't stop smiling anymore.

"I made very tiny abominations that tricked the scouts," he explained, making a purple circle in the air with his finger. A tiny little abomination appeared on the ground in front of them, waving shyly up at Marigold.

Marigold giggled. "How cute." And out of the corner of her eye, she saw Darius blush a little and look to the ground. But his eyes seemed to focus on not directly, as if he was thinking about something.

Meanwhile, Marigold continued to look at the little abomination and carefully bent down to gently pat its purple head.

It was truly remarkable. Marigold had once heard that while it was extremely difficult to create a large abomination, it was even more challenging to create a very small one, especially one as detailed as this one. Darius was truly gifted.

When she looked up, she noticed that Darius was looking at her with a gentle expression, and when she looked over at him, he let his eyes wander to the library.

"So-"he murmured, "Back- back to the plan."

"Right,"Marigold stood up and knocked some dust off her clothes, which then spread all around her. That earned her a critical look from Darius, "So how exactly are you planning on getting in there?"

"We have to wait a little while for a delivery," Darius said, looking down at his watch, which bared its fangs dangerously, "It shouldn't be too long now."

Marigold raised a brow. "A delivery? Did you order take out or- "

But she was interrupted by a strange noise. It sounded like a bubbling and was getting closer by the second.
She looked over at Darius, who smiled and nodded, "That's my delivery."

Marigold turned around just as a globe abomination goop, about the size of a table, came rolling out of an alley and stopped right in front of them.

"Wow!" She walked around the globe and inspected it from all sides. She had never seen anything like it. It was a very creative way to use abomination goop, "Did you make these?"

Darius nodded proudly.

"That's amazing! I've never seen anyone create an abomination like that." she said.

"Oh scatterbrain," he grinned and took a step closer to her, "you're about to be even more amazed."

Marigold didn't quite know why, but that sentence made her heart skip a beat due to excitement.

Darius drew another purple circle in the air and a small crack appeared in the globe. And then another. Neatly, the globe unfolded to reveal a pile of clothes wildly thrown together.

"Yes, I still have to teach it how to fold clothes," Darius mumbled, nudging the mountain of clothes with the tip of his foot as if he feared there might be a monster hiding underneath or something.

Marigold chuckled softly and Darius looked at her in surprise. "What?" he asked.

"Oh, nothing, just," she grinned, amused, "you want to teach a globe how to fold?"

He crossed his arms in front of his chest, "I have no idea what's so amusing about that."

"You create all these incredible things. The little abomination, the globe that apparently stole clothes for you, and all you think about is how neatly that globe stole the clothes, "she explained, "I don't know, but that's all so, well so typical Darius."

Darius seemed surprised and he didn't seem to know how exactly to respond. So Marigold explained further, "It's not a bad thing or anything. Quite the opposite, in fact."

His lips formed a silent "oh" and he turned back to his clothes. With two fingers, he pulled out a scout mask from the pile of clothes.

"Don't you think they'll miss the stuff? "Marigold asked, taking the mask in her hand as he handed it to her.

He shook his head. "The stuff was already in the trash. So at most they'll notice in about two days that the garbage can is a little lighter than it was before, but I think their allegiance to the Emperor ends where he asks them to dig through the trash."

"Sounds logical," Marigold muttered, leaving out that even the one and only Darus Deamonne was ready to dig through the trash to get what he wanted. She started pulling more pieces of uniform out of the pile. Darius, on the other hand, didn't move a bit, but stared at the pile of clothes as if it were the most disgusting thing he had ever seen.

"Darius? Don't you want to change too?" she asked, tilting her head.

He screwed up his face. "But they're from the trash."

She sighed and stood up straighter to put a hand on his shoulder. "Then they're out of the trash, so what. We've come this far, we're not going to let that stop us now, are we?"

That elicited a slight smile from Darius. "Alright. Maybe you are right."

"Of course I am."she grinned,"Come on drama queen."
