HER SORROWS WERE CARVED in the stars long before she was born; they would remain there long after she was martyred, once the blood of her predecessors dwindles into dust, becomes the lineage of a forgotten myth, a story told to teach the vital lessons in life. It was the fact of Deidre Grieves' very existence, the only possible ending for a girl of common status who was never meant for the throne yet found herself upon it anyways. To drown in her sadness, to cave beneath the weight of her own decisions; Deidre of the Sorrows was a dead girl walking.
His destiny was a burden always carried for him, but he bore the brunt of it like a knife in the back, the blade buried in deep. Arthur Pendragon was born for the satisfaction of others and in spite of the misery in his own heart. He was a body to put on a throne and a face for the people, a mind for his father to shape in his own image. It was the fact of Arthur's life that his future was already set in stone, the only possible ending for a boy who was in way over his head; the Once and Future King was a dead man walking.
Her hope was a bitter poison to swallow; like a freshly healed wound with the scab picked away by ruthless fingers, blood running red in spite of her status, of what Camelot and its expectations had long since laid out for her. It was the fact of Guinevere's present and future. She would live and die the daughter of a Blacksmith, faith and hope buried in a shallow grave around the back; the peasant girl who was never meant to be Queen but quickly became one of two, soon the only to remain.
Deidre, Arthur and Gwen should've never crossed paths. And yet, their hearts found each other anyways, tangled in a web of hope, love and longing. Of deception, betrayal and bloodshed. Of what could've been and what came to pass.
And so it goes, the slaughter. The great, unholy aftermath.
