The walk back to the castle was nothing short of awkward as they continued to discuss the minor details of their 'relationship'. It was less about simply pronouncing that they were getting married and more about actually selling the idea that it's all genuine.
They had to *look the part. Like they were actually two people in love. Otherwise their plan wouldn't work and it would all be for naught.
Of course Hongjoong wasn't thrilled about any of it but he had a duty to his people. His family. And when he took on the crown he swore to put Naex first before anything else.
So there they were, walking back into the castle in a weird silence the moment guards come into ear and eyeshot and could listen in on their talking. Seonghwa immediately takes the vampire's hand, interlocking their fingers.
Hongjoong snaps his head at him with an annoyed look in his eyes. He tries pulling his hand away but the taller male grips his hand tight. Seonghwa glares back at him and mouths, "Just go with it, idiot"
Hongjoong bit his tongue as an angry growl crawled it's way up his throat but he swallows it back down. We only have to do this while in public. Only in public. He kept dutifully reminding himself.
Any guards they walked past, upon spotting the two, would bow at the king. Hongjoong noticed how their gazes would fall down to their interlocked hands and it took everything in him not to call the whole operation off and run away.
They return back the the reception. Lucky for then it was currently the newly wed's first dance so everyone was quietly seated at their seats and watching with big smiles on their faces while Wooyoung and San slowly swayed back in forth in the middle to the orchestra in the corner playing a beautiful yet slow symphony.
With all eyes not on them that gave Hongjoong enough reason to pull his hand away from Seonghwa's. The werewolf looks at him with a questioning stare.
"I'll find you later" He mouths to him then turns and walks off without giving Seonghwa time to protest against it.
Immediately after Hongjoong walks off, Seonghwa turns to look for his family, easily spotting them sitting at one of the many round dinner tables at the reception. All their eyes were on him but he made his way towards them with only one thought in mind.
Before he had even sat down his mother signs to him using Boulian sign language. It was how werewolves communicated when hunting but in their human forms. It enabled them to converse while still maintaining the needed stealth to successfully carry out a hunt.
Now was a perfect example. They could freely talk and maintain privacy since most vampires, especially aristocrats, did not know Boulian sign language.
"Where did you go? Why were you with the king?" She signs to him. Her eyes were narrowed and brows cinched together in confusion.
"Just talking" Seonghwa signed back, keeping it simple.
