WEDNESDAY — 3 / 8 / 23
Lucas and I started hanging out, a lot.
Not only was he as gorgeous as he was, he was funny, sweet, athletic, and smart. We became pretty close. I was sure that we were both interested in each other as more than friends, but friends was all that we were.
For now.
We began to walk to all our classes together every day, which worked since we had every other class together. As people started seeing us with each other, the rumors absolutely detonated.
"Holy shit Ems, are you and Lucas Jones actually together already?" Jenna asked me one day while we were walking to the library for Study Hall. "You two just met like 4 days ago."
"What? No. Not yet, at least," I sighed. "I kinda hope he does ask me out though, I think I'm catching feelings."
"Hey, hey, hey, no tea spilling without me!" Maddie appeared out of nowhere, catching up with us. "What's going on?"
"Melly's already catching feelings," Jen cooed in a singsong voice.
Jake cleared his throat rather loudly as we made our way over to the boys in our regular beanbag area. Judging by the look on his face, Jake had clearly been eavesdropping on our conversation.
"And what happened to Josh? I was just getting used to his annoying voice."
"Yeah, about that...." I sat down on the carpet and leaned back, using Reese's legs as backrest. "We broke up. A few weeks ago. It's almost been a month, actually."
"No wonder I haven't seen him as much lately. Why didn't you tell us before?" Oliver asked.
"Come on, I knew you guys never really liked him, and I guess... I just didn't want to admit you were right all along. I know how stubborn I was about him whenever any of you said he wasn't worth it, or that he was an insensitive jerk-"
"-and just a really really annoying idiot," Evan finished.
"Yeah, that too."
"Thank God, I didn't know how much longer I could take that asswipe," Reese huffed. "Please tell me you're the one that dumped him."
"It was a mutual agreement," I replied with a sarcastic smile.
"But you are the one that brought it up right?"
I nodded.
"That still counts in my book."
"You know," Jake said, "he wasn't that bad once you got used to his braggy, stupid, wannabe personality."
"I think I get it now, Jay."
Evan turned to look at me and laughed. "Aw, look, she's all red in the cheeks. Me personally, I never liked him one bit. My offer to beat him up for you still stands, you know."
I smiled. "Thanks, but I think I'll save my 'Get Beat Up by Evan' ticket for a more worthier opponent."
"Oh, by the way, have you all signed up for the field trip to Cape Coral?" Jen asked. "The payments start next week."
( yall i really suck at coming up with city names so excuse the lameness of CApe cORal )
"What's that?" Reese asked.
"Basically, a group of 100 students gets to go on a trip to Cape Coral for the weekend," Oliver explained. "It's a special event for 9th graders, and it's first come first serve, so you gotta be quick with those payments."
"Well, I can't make it," Jake sighed. "My grandparents are visiting from New Jersey that week. I love Nonna and Gramps, but I think I'd rather go to the biggest freshmen event of the year."
"I heard that apparently, a shit ton of drama goes down every year during the trip," Madelyn said. "Like, a few years ago, McKenzie Roberts found her 2 week ex was hooking up with her best friend. And last year, Addison Waller caught her boyfriend cheating with her twin sister and almost fell off the cruise boat."
My eyes widened. "Damnnn."
"Hey, maybe you should stay back with me and my grandparents," Jake said. "We can watch Outer Banks and eat lasagna all day."
"Oh yeah," Evan laughed, "we all know how big of a drama magnet you are."
"No matter how tempting Nonna's delicious lasagna is, I think I'ma go on the trip," I said with a smile. "And hey- it's not intentional!"
"Yeah, you just always end up getting sucked into every incident," Reese tsked. "Get all your negative drama energy away from me."
"Well since you asked so nicely," I replied, batting my eyes sarcastically and climbing into his lap, "now you can just inhale all of my negative drama energy," I mimicked.
some of you guys keep on telling me that the way i am with my guy friends seems too close to be just friends- that's just the way we are , don't judge our friendship pls 😭
