A pretty tortishell cat slid underneath a wooden fence carrying a mouse. She looked left and right before sprinting across the open field. Once safely to the other side she slipped through a partially open barn door into the shadowy coolness inside.
"Whatcha got there Kaddilac?" A tom, mouse gray in color with yellow eyes meowed from the rafters above the floor. The tortishell looked up and dropped her mouse. "A mouse. What's to it?" She asked before trotting further into the barn. The tom scrambled down from the ceiling and walked up to the she-cat.
"No need to be so rash, Kaddilac Ransom. Just being friendly you know." He rubbed up against her side and she glared at him. "Leave it, Nitro. I ain't got no intentions for kits before winter." Kaddilac stuck her nose up and climbed the wobbly stairs to the second floor of the barn. Nitro glared after her and he stalked off out of the barn.Dustwing leapt off the tree root and landed on the squirrel. It let out a squeal before he dispatched it with a swift bite. He lifted up his catch to see Petaldance slipping through the brush towards him with a dove. His eyes softened at the sight of the rose-gray she-cat. Following behind her was her younger sister Leafspring. Dustwing dropped his squirrel to speak.
"I think we we're successful." He mewed. Petaldance looked through the leaves to the patches of sky shining through. "Yes, it was a good hunt." Petaldance was the daughter of the clans leader, Slatestar. Their mother, Splashfleck, is a warrior in Rainclan. The clans rules on loving another cat in a clan had softened but we're still shamed. Leafspring whipped around and her tail bushed out.
"I smell another cat! Outside the border!" She hared off with Dustwing running after her. The patrol was close to the border and Dustwing swerved past a bush to see Leafspring facing off with a tortishell cat. Dustwing's eyes widened at the site of the she-cat.
She was remarkably patterned. Looking much like the horses that ran across the fields of the farm, she was covered from nose to paw in odd brown markings. Her eyes were a brilliant green and her nose was a soft pink. Dustwing marveled at her slim form as he watched the cat take a swipe at Leafspring.
Petaldance skid to a stop next to him as she watched her sister. The tortishell cat noticed the other cats and backed away slightly. Dustwing stepped forward to stop her. "We're not here to harm you. Leafspring thought you were and intruder." He meowed and the she-cat seemed to relax. Leafspring snarled and glared at Dustwing.
"She has a squirrel behind her! She's stolen prey!" She hissed. Dustwing peered behind the cat and saw a bushy tail behind her back legs. "Leafspring! Calm down!" Petaldance laid her tail across the bristling she-cats shoulders and looked at Dustwing. Dustwing flattened his ears and looked at the foreign cat.
"Would you be so kind as to tell us your name?" He asked sitting down. The tortishell relaxed her battle stance and stood normally. "Why should I tell you that?" She mewed. Her voice had a weird slur to it that made it seem hypnotizing. Dustwing shook his head and shrugged. "Sorry for Leafspring attacking you. She's young and needs to learn a bit more." The she-cat finally sat down and looked at them.
"My name is Kaddilac. What are yours." Dustwing flicked his tail at each of them. "Mine is Dustwing, the one who attacked you is Leafspring, and her sister is Petaldance." Kaddilacs eyes lit up in recognition. "Your some of the Warriors that patrol this part of the land aren't you?" Petaldance nodded.
"Yes, do you live on this farm?" She asked. Kaddilac nodded. "Yea, me and another cat named Nitro live here." Dustwing stood up and looked up at the sun. "I'm sorry but it's time for us to go. Our clan will be missing us." They stood up and begun to walk before Kaddilac stopped them.
"Wait! Could I maybe, go with you?" She asked smiling at them. Dustwing looked at Petaldance and she nodded. Dustwing looked back at Kaddilac. "I guess. Don't be surprised if Slatestar isn't nice though. He isn't very good with trespassers." Kaddilac frowned. "Well maybe he should treat them the more nicely since he took a mate from another group." Petaldance froze.
"How did you know that?" Petaldance asked lookin baffled at Kaddilac. She tilted her head. "Splashfleck is my sister." She meowed. "She came to me when she was pregnant. Why?" Petaldance sat down and looked at her paws. "That means your related to me and Leafspring. Splashfleck is our mother." Kaddilac peered at them a little closer.
"I guess that explains why you look familiar. You have Splashflecks eyes." Kaddilac meowed. "I also knew you when you were kits. She stayed here the week of her kitting. Anyway, could we go to your clan?" Kaddilac asked impatiently. Dustwing shook his head and took the lead. "Yea, come on."
