I woke up in the middle of the night to a ringing that came from my phone. The comforter was heavy on me and left me in a cold sweat. I looked over my shoulder and saw könig was still dead asleep. I smiled as I saw some saliva dribble out of his mask, I never took him for a drooler.
The only thing that lit up the room was the moon from our rusted window. It was calming and peaceful. I slipped out of the covers and walked over to the dresser könig and I shared. I grabbed my phone on top of the dresser and checked who was calling. It was Ghost. At 2 in the morning?I tiptoed outside the bedroom and closed the door.
"Ghost?" My throat is still a little sore from what I did with könig.
"Y/N, hi, how are you?" A gruff British voice crackled through the phone.
"Fine for someone who just got woken up at 2 AM. This better be important." I placed my hand on my hip.
He sighed. "We got good news and bad news, which one do you want first?"
My heart sank and my mind started to race. What happened? Did we get compromised? Was Soap okay? I put the phone down and took a deep breath. The howling wolves didn't make my anxiety any better. I brought the phone back up to my ear."Bad news." I sighed and opened the front door. I walked out onto the porch and sat on the wooden rocking chair.
Ghost took a deep breath before speaking, he seemed hesitant. "So the blueprints for the bomb have changed destinations."
"What?!" I quickly felt the anger rise inside of me. König and I spent hours coming up with a plan to sneak into the building and get the blueprints. Now all of that work has gone to waste.
"But, good news, the place it's being transported to is easier to get in. Even more good news, you get to spend 5 hours in a crate with könig." He said sarcastically and to be honest, it got on my nerves.
"That's not good news." I knew I had to keep whatever my relationship with könig was hidden from the team. I technically wasn't lying because I don't want to spend 5 hours in a box with anyone, but it still hurt because they are my friends. Unfortunately, the 141 has a strict policy on no romantic relationships. I didn't know if our relationship was romantic, but it was better safe than sorry.
"Well, you have to do it. It's that or you abandon the mission and I can't promise you the commander of this operation will let you go with all your limbs intact."
I sighed and rested my head on the palm of my hand. "Fuck it. I'll do it."
"Good, just make sure to let König know." His voice got louder through the phone.
"Let me know what?" A familiar husky Austrian voice spoke softly from behind me. I jumped out of my seat and saw könig standing in the doorway.
"Jesus, fuck, when did you get here?" I questioned könig, completely forgetting Ghost was on the phone.
"Uh, I'm going to hang up now. Bye Y/N." My phone beeped as he hung up, and I slid my phone into my back pocket.
König tall figure leaned against the door frame which he was taller than. Of course he was, he's taller than a lot of things. His eyes almost seemed like a wolf, greyish-blue and squinting at me ready to pounce.
"What are you doing on the phone with Ghost this late?" His voice was soft and his accent lay heavy on my ears. I hate that I get turned on by his accent alone, already making my ears burn up. He tilted his head to the side and crossed his arms over his wide chest.
"None of your goddamn business." König caught me at a bad time, my mood wasn't that great. I tried to shove past him and open the door but his hand caught my wrist before I could touch it. His other hand grabbed my waist and pulled me close.
His face leaned closer to mine. "I think it is my business."
"It's really not, it's not like you're my boyfriend." His eyes squeezed together a little, he didn't like what I said. König leaned his upper body down to come near eye-level with me.
"Maybe we should change that."
My body ached for him, we were so close but not close enough to satisfy me. The moonlight made his eyes shine brighter. I looked at his mask, the orange tint running down the eye slits of his face covering which I'm pretty sure is a cut-up t-shirt because of the awkward extra fabric near his ears.
"You haven't even taken me out on a proper date yet." I tugged my hand out of his grasp. König noticed and holds my hand as our fingers interlock like the roots of trees. I am like a tree and König is like the soil, I'm embedded in him.
"Let me fix that then." He smirked and planted a kiss on my head. Konig slipped inside the cabin and closed the door, leaving me speechless. I blushed and jumped up and down. I know it's a little childish but I really like him. I sat back down on the rocking chair and wondered what we would do for our date. Would it be a surprise? Would we plan it together? I knew we couldn't do it on the mission, obviously, but I could hardly wait.As the moon traveled across the sky and the breeze blew a little rougher everything seemed surreal. My mind started to wander as it does. I started thinking about my life before the 141, my mom, my brother, and my cat Lucky. I missed them. Though, my brother would get on my nerves a lot. One time he threw away my collection of Minecraft figurines. I never forgave him for it. Is it bad to say I kind of still don't? My mom always wanted to talk about my boy problems, but we never found the time. When I told her I wanted to join the military she flipped a lid. She was scared for me and wanted me home, but there's a reason I joined the military. To leave everything behind...
A/N: Backstory??? What?? Character development?? How is this possible?? On a serious note, the backstory will continue and will be the majority, if not all of the next chapter.
