Kass was drenched in drool.
It had been about a week since the new sword instructor had arrived at the camp. She could be seen playing with his pet, the hellhound Mr. O'leary.
Normally Aurora was with her, although she didn't play with the dog, to make sure her best friend didn't kill herself while she was with the hellhound.
But today the black-haired girl was practicing with the sword with James. She used the bow more but at Chiron's request she began to practice her sword technique more. She still preferred her precious bow, it's the only thing she has from her mother.
"Yaaaaah!" Someone charged from behind Kass with the intention of hitting Mr. O'leary.
The sound of clashing swords was heard throughout the arena. Quintus, who was there, had arrived in time so that the boy did not harm his friend (the dog).
"Percy!" The girl greeted him, still under the dog's hair. Mr O'Leary barked in greeting without knowing that the son of Poseidon had tried to kill her.
"Whoa there!" The swordsman said. "Truce!"
"WOOF!" The hellhound's bark shook the arena. "That's a hellhound!" Percy shouted.
"No shit Sherlock" Kass mocked her friend as she stood next to the hellhound.
"She's harmless," the man said. "That's Mrs. O'Leary."
He blinked. "Mrs. O'Leary?" At the sound of her name, the hellhound barked again. The black-haired realized she wasn't angry. She was excited. She nudged the soggy, badly chewed target dummy toward his friend.
"Good girl," the girl said simling. With her hand she grabbed the armored manikin by the neck and heaved it toward the bleachers. "Get the Greek! Getthe Greek!" Mrs. O'Leary bounded after her prey and pounced on the dummy, flattening its armor. She began chewing on its helmet.
The swordsman smiled dryly. "Mrs. O'Leary is my pet," he explained. "And the best dog I ever had!" Kass added as she took the manikin away from the hellhound to throw it away again.
"I couldn't let you stick a swordin her rump, now, could I? That might have scared her." Quintus continued, amused to see the demigoddess covered in drool from his dog friend.
"Who are you?" Percy asked.
"Promise not to kill me if I put my sword away?"
"I guess." He sheathed his sword and held out his hand.
"Quintus." They shook their hands. "Percy Jackson," the younger one said. "Sorry about—How did you, um—"
"Get a hellhound for a pet? Long story, involving many close calls with adeath and quite a few giant chew toys. I'm the new sword instructor, by theway. Helping out Chiron while Mr. D is away."
"Oh." the green-eyed tried not to stare as Mrs. O'Leary ripped off the target dummy's shield with the arm still attached and shook it like a Frisbee. "Aren't you worried that she will hurt her?" He looked at where the daughter of Hermes was, his concern could be heard in his voice. "Wait, Mr. D is away?"
"Oh, don't worry. You should have seen how they played yesterday." responded downplaying. "And yes, well...busy times. Even Dionysus must help out. He's gone to visitsome old friends. Make sure they're on the right side. I probably shouldn't say more than that."
Before Percy could say something a loud BUM was heard. Six wooden crates the size ofpicnic tables were stacked nearby, and they were rattling.
"Kassy I told you not to the boxes" Quintus warned. Percy raised an eyebrow in confusion when he heard how he called his friend.
